Dealz sent a warning letter on planning
THE planning enforcement department of Wexford County Council has issued a warning letter to the discount chain Dealz over its premises in Clonard Retail Park.
The business operated by the UK firm Poundland which was recently taken over by a South African company, is alleged to be in breach of a condition attached to planning permission for the retail park granted on appeal in 2001 by An Bord Pleanala.
The appeals board granted permission on condition that the use of the floor space in all of the units would be restricted exclusively to the storage and selling of bulky household goods in the following categories - furniture, carpets, white goods, DIY materials and garden products.
The condition specified that ‘no convenience or other comparison shopping shall occur in these units.’
The Council confirmed that it issued a warning letter because it appeared that a breach of planning may have taken place.
‘Wexford County Council is currently considering the issuing of further enforcement proceedings to regularise the matter,’ the local authority said in a statement this week.
When Clonard Retail Park was being developed, Wexford County Council granted planning permission with conditions for the development which was to include three office blocks. The decision was appealed to An Bord Pleanala which granted permission for the retail park but refused permission for the proposed office spaces.
An attempt to contact Dealz for a comment on the warning letter was unsuccessful.
