Bumper week in store with no fewer

-

A BUMPER week lies ahead in the People Newspapers Coiste na nÓg championships, with ten finals currently scheduled for decision.

Four of those take place midweek, with the big game pitting Starlights against Ballinastragh Gaels in the Gorey Guardian Juvenile football Premier final on Wednesday (7.30 p.m. in St. Patrick’s Park).

The Bellefield boys are the surprise of the championship, only qualifying directly for the quarter-finals from Premier B after Castletown lost their final group game to Rathgarogue-Cushinstown. Since then they have beaten Naomh Eanna and Glynn-Barntown in the knockouts to reach the final.

For the Kilanerin/Tara Rocks combination, progress has been a little more serene. They finished top of Premier A, moving them directly into a semi-final with St. Martin’s.

The Piercestown and Murrintown side gave them a cracking game, falling by 3-9 to 1-12, and more of the same is expected in Enniscorthy on Wednesday.

On the same evening it’s Moguegeen Gaels (Clongeen/Fethard) against Cloughbawn in the Gorey Guardian Juvenile football Roinn 2 shield final (7.45 p.m. in Taghmon).

On Thursday evening Castletown face Oylegate-Glenbrien in the Juvenile football Premier shield final. Both sides played in the Premier B section but have done a fantastic job to reach this stage, after exiting the championship proper.

That game throws in at 7 p.m. in St. Patrick’s Park. On the same evening St. Mary’s (Rosslare) meet Davidstown-Courtnacuddy in the New Ross Standard Under-14 football Division 4 shield final in Taghmon (6.30 p.m.).

In St. Patrick’s Park two days later, another double-header takes place. Craanford meet Rapparees in the New Ross Standard Under-14 hurling Division 2 shield final at 11 a.m. That is followed by the Wexford People Premier Minor
