Wexford Festival Opera to roll out the green carpet
Wexford Festival Opera will be rolling out the Green Carpet with the Environmental Protection Agency on Tuesday, November 1, to highlight how small changes can have a big positive impact on the environment.
The Festival and the EPA have worked together over the past few years and November 1 has been chosen as the Greening of the Wexford Festival Opera.
To highlight this association opera goers on the night are being asked to make a symbolic small change to their outfit, signifying a commitment to making small changes in their lives to help the environment.
Small changes can make a great difference, so people are encouraged to make a small change to their opera-wear that evening, such as a green bowtie, a green piece of jewellery, a green pocket square, green shoes, green nail varnish; the possibilities are endless! Patrons will also enter that night via a green carpet.
‘By promoting the importance of the environment at Wexford Festival Opera we would hope to inspire people to take some small steps for the environment, be it in our homes and personal lives or our workplaces, colleges, schools and communities,’ said Laure Burke, director general of the EPA.
Chief Executive of Wexford Festival Opera, David McLoughlin said that by rolling out the Green Carpet for the environment, we hope to inspire our patrons, performers and the public to make simple and practical changes in their everyday lives that benefit the environment by deepening our already strong partnership with the EPA, the Festival’s long established community and environmental partner.
‘This latest initiative will enable the Festival to further promote best environmental practice and awareness through the expert advice and guidance of the EPA,’ he said.
