Nordic journalists switch off phones to get away from it all

-

JOURNALISTS from Norway, Sweden and Denmark have been exploring Ireland’s Ancient East and as a result of their visit, an estimated 870,000 Scandinavians will be reading all about Wexford over the coming months.

The theme of the visit was ‘digital detox’ with the journalists asked to switch off their mobile devices in order to get away from it all and to truly appreciate their surroundings, while discovering the rich history and heritage of the region. One of the highlights of their time here was a visit to Monart Spa in Enniscorthy.

Aileen Hickey, Tourism Ireland’s Manager Nordic Region, said the agency was delighted that these influential journalists took the time to come and visit Wexford and Ireland’s Ancient East.

‘Fact-finding visits like this are an important element of our overall promotional programme, providing an excellent opportunity to showcase the many things to see and do in Ireland’s Ancient East – and elsewhere on the island of Ireland – to potential Scandinavian holidaymakers,’ she said.

In another tourism promotion, Wexford hotels were out in force at the ‘Flavours of Ireland’ workshop in London where British tour operators came together to do business with tourism organisations from Ireland.

‘ This was an excellent opportunity for the participating Irish tourism providers to highlight and sell their products to these important decision makers and to encourage them to feature the island of Ireland in their 2017 holiday programmes, said David Boyce of Tourism Ireland.
