SHOE BOX APPEAL

It’s that time of year again to fill your shoe boxes and get them ready for collection. They need to be ready for November 10 and can be left into the PO, Breda’s Shop or the school. All donations welcome.

DANCING

Dancing continues every Thursday night in Tír na nÓg with music by Jimmy Barnwell October 20, Halloween dance with Cupla October 27. All proceeds in aid of Ballymitty Handball club new build.

There will be a bus pick up drop off service from your house covering all areas to the social dance nights every Thursday night. A cover charge of €10 will include bus fare, admission to the dance, door prize entry and refreshment. For bus contact Markie Sinnott 087 2407755.

A table quiz will be held in Tír na nÓg on November 4 at 8.30 p.m. in aid of Wellingtonbridge Tidy Towns.

CHURCH GATE COLLECTION

A church gate collection in aid of the Severely Intellectually Disabled will be held on Saturday and Sunday, October 22 and 23.

Ballycogley Players will perform three one-act plays in Carrig-on-Bannow Community Centre Sunday, November 6, at 6 p.m.

CORACH RAMBLERS FC

This week’s Corach Ramblers split-the-pot was won by Graham Kelly Tusker view Wexford (c/o Wallace’s hardware) who picks up €751.Well done, Graham. Once again thanks a million to everyone for your continued support.

A-team were at home to Taghmon today and despite missing six regulars we showed the strength of the squad by eventually running out 4-2 winners, we started off well and had all the pressure in the first 20 minutes but then went one down against the run of play in the 27th minute, it stayed like that till half time in what was a poor last 15 minutes, second half we came out with more purpose and had Taghmon on the back foot from the start but Taghmon were sitting deep and trying to get us on the counter attack so chances were scarce, with 25 minutes left we made a couple of substitutions and positional changes and five minutes later we got the equaliser we deserved when Gareth McCurtin finished to the corner from 25 yards with the help of a slight deflection, his first goal on his return to the club, a couple of minutes later we went ahead when Gareth got his second from the edge of the box, our third arrived two minutes from time when from the edge of the box again Gareth completed his hat trick, Taghmon pulled one back in the last minute to set up what could have been a nervy finish but Gareth got his fourth in the 91st minute to make sure of the three points.

B team were away to rosslare Rangers today and what can ya say only what a performance from the rambler boys. We took the lead early on through James Byrne but rosslare came at us hard and got one back. We were up again it for much of the first half but after the break we made two changes and on came Richie and Aaron. We started to play some decent soccer again but they got awarded a Peno and converted but the boys knew they were on top and never dropped the heads. They pushed hard and soon got the equaliser through Aaron but we didn’t sit back on that and knew they were there for the taking and after some great play the ball was played through to Kevin Sinnott who squared it for Richie to tap home. Great result by both teams and a great way to work together between both teams #coyr

North End were the opposition for the ladies’ team and despite going behind in the first minute Corach drew level after a spectacular lob from Sara Byrne. This was soon followed by the home teams’ second and it was 2-1 at half time. The third goal for the town team came after a disputed offside call and when they were gifted the fourth it became an easy win. Trina Sinnott scored a great team goal to remind them the game wasn’t over but unfortunately that was the final score of the game. A 4-2 loss was tough but it was just one of those days when nothing seemed to go right.

Corach under-10 girls played away this morning against Fasnet in their second game of the season. They played their hearts out all way through the match few brilliant saves from our goalkeeper. We scored a lovely goal by Laura Neville in the second half. Unfortunately today wasn’t our day but all girls had a great game. Final score 2-1.

Two goals from Cairadh Connelly and one from Jamie Walsh gave Seaview a 3-1 win away to Corach Ramblers under-14. The game was only 1-0 to the visitors at half time after a lucky goal but a superb lob shot from Grace Donovan was not enough to pull it back for the home side. Fantastic goalkeeping from Nicole Cahill prevented a much higher score.

Under-11 boys won 6-0 two goals from conor miller. One from alec moran, dean brown, kyle cleary and harry murphy. very solid performance all round. Two nil up at half time. fethard played well but boys very solid in defence and quick on the break. jack cleary had a very good game in goal for us too making some key saves.

Our under-13 boys travelled to Tombrack this morning and despite a fantastic effort overall, they went down 3-1 to the home side. A poor start saw Corach head in at half time a goal down. What was a scrappy game to be fair, was all but over when Tombrack added two more goals midway through the second half. A late consolation goal from Cormac McGee was just reward for the fight the boys showed from start to finish even at 3-0 down. Just one of those days for the boys, but we’ll put it right next time out.

GAA CLUB NOTES

Jackpot this Tuesday will be €5,600. Tickets are two euro each or a book of six just €10. Tickets can be purchased from the Post office Carrig, Seabreeze Laundrette Carrig, Tír na nÓg Wellingtonbridge of any Club Officer in the complex. All money and tickets to be down in the complex after 7.30 p.m.

HANDBALL CLUB

The Ballymitty handball club AGM is on Tuesday, November 15, at 7.30 p.m. in the club’s meeting room.

Can you believe it’s almost Mid Term break already?. We have moved our usual Prize-giving to Friday, October 21. Junior infants – second class prize-giving is 1.15 p.m. to 2 p.m. and senior prize-giving 2.15 p.m. to 3 p.m. All Parent’s are welcome.

On Friday, October 21, we will also be saying farewell to Ms. Eleanor Kehoe who has been appointed as the new Principal in Monageer NS We wish her every success in her new role and we thank her for all the wonderful ways she contributed to our school since 2007. Go n’éirí on t-ádh leat.

Well done to our Rackard League Football teams, combined with Danescastle NS the girls and boys have played lots of matches recently and are awaiting news about the next round.

We are looking forward to fourth – sixth classes participating in the Sing Out Loud Concert in the National Opera House on November 20. It’s a wonderful occasion and we’ve participated for the last four years. Parents who haven’t purchased tickets can do so by contacting the Opera House directly or by going online.

Mindfulness: our plan for the year ahead is for our school to become a Mindful School. Some of our sixth class students are busy organising activities for mindfulness. Every Monday is Mindful Monday where we spend time listening to Mindfulness exercises and we allow ourselves to just be still and be mindful of what’s going on at that moment. We are also doing Glitter Jars for each class and we hope to set up a Mindfulness area in the school.

Yoga: Our pupils will begin yoga after Midterm break with Tina Ralph. The children love yoga and it has many benefits.

Parent and Toddler: Our Parent and toddler group is up and running every Wednesday and Friday 9.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. Because the prize-giving is on Friday, October 21, there will be no P& T group on that day. We look forward to welcoming more of you to our group.

MINDFULNESS

A talk on Mindfulness by Mark Ralf will take place in the Study Centre, Wellingtonbridge (situated at the back of Cost Cutters) on Friday, October 28, from 8.30 to 9.30 p.m. All are welcome, especially school students. Admission free.
