1 TIN SOLDIER/ PAPER DANCER: ‘This, That and the Other’ in associatio­n with Wexford Arts Centre will present their new production Tin Soldier/ Paper Dancer on Friday October 21 and Saturday October 22. A dark story of unrequited love is given form in this thrilling, theatrical work that combines contempora­ry dance, solo guitar, choral voices and visual art. This re-interpreta­tion for an adult audience of a well known Hans Christian Andersen fairytale, is a collaborat­ion between independen­t dance artist Dee Grant, musician and composer Nick Day, twelve singers (including vocal effects from Paula Cox) and visual artists Kathleen Delaney and Padraig Grant. All of their work and talent has come together to make a show full of mystery and magic that is certainly not to be missed. Showings of Tin Soldier/ Paper Dancer will take place at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. each night in the Wexford Arts Centre. Tickets cost between €12 and €15 and can be purchased from the Wexford Arts Centre or online from the Wexford Arts Centre website. 2 LEGALLY BLONDE: Oyster Lane Theatre Group will bring the hit comedy Legally Blonde to Dun Mhuire Theatre from October 24 until October 29. Based on the 2001 movie of the same name, it tells a story of Elle Woods, a sorority girl who enrolls in Havard Law School to win back her ex-boyfriend Warner. Sharon Clancy will take on the lead role of Elle, with Gearoid McCauley as Emmet, Tom Joyce as Warner, Neal O’Leary as Callaghan, Yvette Walsh as Vivienne and Majella Londra as Paulette. Music and lyrics have been put together by Nell Benjamin and Laurence O’Keefe. Tickets cost €16 for adults and €13 for children and can be booked through Oyster Lane or online. 3 SINGING SESSION: The County Wexford Traditiona­l Singers’ Circle is holding a singing session at Mary’s Bar in John’s Gate Street, Wexford, on Friday, October 21. There is a free pint for the first person who sings by heart the Wexford ballad ‘Carrig River’. Similar events will take place on November 18 and December 16. 4 READING BY AUTHOR JENNIFER JOHNSTON: Acclaimed Irish author Jennifer Johnston will give a reading from her new book ‘Naming the Stars’ in Gorey Library on Thursday, October 20, from 7.30 p.m. to 8.45 p.m. Don’t miss this opportunit­y to meet one of Ireland’s literary treasures, and talk to her about her writing life. Phone 053 9421481 or email goreylib@wexfordcoc­o.ie. 5 1916 LECTURE: New Ross Historical Society will hold its next lecture on Thursday, October 20, in New Ross Boat Club at 8 p.m. entitled ‘A military history of the Easter Rising’. The lecture by Dr Pat McCarthy will examine the military aspects of the Rising; the forces involved on both sides, in particular the British garrison in Ireland, and the impact of the counterman­ding order on the Rising. It will then look at lost opportunit­ies and errors on both sides. Non members are welcome €5 per lecture, or full membership is €15 for the year. 6 LUNCHTIME CONCERT: Valda Chamber Choir are holding a lunchtime concert at the Wexford County Council offices at Carricklaw­n at 1.05 p.m. on Saturday, October 22. Special guests are Conor Sheil on clarinet and Yvonne Collier on piano. Tickets priced at €15 are available from Trax Music Store, Whitemill Road, Wexford. Call 053 9146896. 7 DARK TO DAWN WALK FOR PIETA: A Dark to Dawn Walk, run by St Joseph’s Athletic Club based in New Ross, in aid of Pieta House takes place on Sunday, October 23, at 6.30 a.m. This is the third running of this event which has grown overwhelmi­ngly in that short time. Everyone is invited to come along and remember loved ones as you walk the beautiful countrysid­e by the river Barrow at the Pink Rock, just five minutes drive outside New Ross. Donations on the morning go to the Waterford branch of Pieta House which opened its doors in recent months. Refreshmen­ts will be served afterwards.
