Mr Barber is a cut above the rest

-

COMBINING top quality haircuts with a relaxing and social experience is the aim of Mr Barber in Kilrane and it’s this unique touch that puts it above the rest. Since it opened its doors in August, people of all ages have been flocking to the barbershop where they know they will be in the good hands of owner and barber Stephen Cooper. Whether it’s the latest in hair trends you are looking for or something simple, Stephen’s years of experience and passion for the job makes him one of the best in the business.

With Mr Barber, Stephen wants to turn the idea of the modern day barbershop on its head. Instead of providing an in-andout service, he wants to make the client’s experience as relaxing and enjoyable as possible. Barstools, comfy sofas, widescreen televisions and upbeat music add to the laidback atmosphere and inject some enjoyment to any waiting time. What’s more, there is free tea and coffee by the bucket load! Regardless of what style you need, Stephen gives everyone his time and never rushes anyone out the door. Besides, with such a homely feel and free and accessible parking on the doorstep, why would anyone want to rush?

Stephen has become somewhat of a local celebrity among the children of nearby Kilrane National School, who know him by his new nickname ‘Mr Barber’. With a café next door, the barbershop is the perfect place for parents to drop off their children for a quick cut while they catch up with a friend nearby. The children’s chairs mean that even your littlest ones can get a cut in complete comfort and safety.

Of course, Mr Barber does not only cater for children. Stephen opens his doors to people of all ages and from all walks of life. The business is fully-equipped to welcome people with disabilities, with plenty of space for wheelchairs and a disabled toilet facility on site.

Over the years, Stephen has picked up plenty of tips and tricks of the trade. However, he is always willing to sharpen his skills and continuous professional development is a big part of his practice.

He also researches all of the latest products and equipment. At the moment, he looks no further than American Crew when it comes to hair products and he swears by high quality Wahl equipment. Using the best products on the market adds a touch of luxury to the overall experience.

At the moment, Mr Barber is a one man show but Stephen is hoping to take two more people on in the near future. As his list of regulars continues to lengthen, he is looking forward to having a few more hands on board.

Open from Tuesday to Saturday, Mr Barber has a time to suit people on any schedule. On Tuesday and Wednesday, the business even offers an OAP deal for €8.

Disappointing haircuts and cramped waiting areas are a thing of the past thanks to Stephen Cooper. No matter what style you are looking for, Mr Barber certainly makes the cut.
