O’Neill continues his hot streak POINT-TO-POINT
IN-FORM Wexford jockey Barry O’Neill continued his hot streak on Saturday as he returned from Portrush in County Antrim with another double under his belt.
He opened his account on board the even money favourite Valmy Baie, trained by D.M. Christie, who won in impressive fashion, leading from pillar to post to record a facile 20-length victory ahead of Quiet Account.
He then steered another market leader to an impressive success in the following race as the Donnchadh Doyle-trained Talkischeap proved five lengths too good for One Cool Clarkson.
The long journey from the south-east was also a worthwhile trip for connections of the well-supported Finian’s Oscar, which was bred by Richard and Martin O’Keefe and is trained by Denis Murphy.
The four-year-old scored impressively under Jamie Codd, in a race where the other horse at the head of the market, Drops Of Jupitor, set a relenting gallop from the off.
Codd also had something to smile about at the Limerick track, Rathcannon, on Sunday, as he had the good fortune to pick up a winning spare ride on the Rúaidhrí Tierney-trained Sandycove Island, after earlier second- and third-placed finishes.
The injured Ciarán Fennessy was the unfortunate one to make way for the Mayglass man, with his mount winning in stylish fashion after pouncing from off the pace and easing away to win by two and a half lengths.
Wexford connections will be hoping to add to their recent successes next weekend when racing takes place at Maralin in County Armagh on Saturday, and at the Meath Hunt and Tara Harriers meeting at Dowth Hall on Sunday.
