A number of social houses are on the way

- By ESTHER HAYDEN

A number of social houses will be built in the Wexford borough district in the coming months.

The houses will be built at Killeen and Maudlintown.

However concerns have been raised in advance of the planning permission for the houses at Killeen being submitted about the possible impact of the works on the streams in the area.

Cllr Davy Hynes suggested that the council should look at the streams in the area with a view to strengthening the banks to prevent winter flooding.

Cllr George Lawlor said that a resident in the area had carried out a lot of work in the area over recent times to alleviate the situation.

Director of Services Tony Larkin said that Killeen application is currently at Part 8 stage and said that all relevant matters will be looked at as part of that process.

In respect of Maudlintown Mr Larkin said the lands are currently going through a Compulsory Purchase Process which had been initiated to allow the council proceed to planning stages. He said that he expects this to be completed in the near future paving the way for the houses.

Housing executive Liz Hore said the Wexford Borough District is the number one area in the county in terms of housing needs and Mr Larkin said he expected to have plans submitted in the coming weeks.
