FINAL ROSE AND ESCORT LINE UP

The excitement is building in the parish as the final line up of ‘Roses’ and ‘Escorts’ to compete in the ‘ Rose of Shelmalier’ competitio­n continue to be announced on a gradual bases. However, after weeks of anticipati­on the final lineup of 14 roses and escorts is almost completed. Those announced so far are (Roses) Colm Flanagan, Conor Byrne, Simon Donohoe, Aidan Cash, Damian Doyle, Paraic O’Leary, Colm Hearne and Aodhan Foley, with the escorts being selected as Theresa Roche, Sadbh McCarthy, Theresa Kehoe, Deirdre McMahon, Kathleen Redmond, Emma Carroll, Judy Coone and Catherine Roche. With this impressive line-up it is anticipate­d that there will be stiff competitio­n to win the coveted prize of Rose of Shelmalier.

SENIOR CITIZENS PARTY

A date for your diary, the Senior Citizens Christmas party will be held on Sunday, December 11, in the Danby Lodge.

HARVEST THANKSGIVI­NG

Piercestow­n-Murrintown Harvest Thanksgivi­ng will take place next weekend. Anyone who would like to leave in items symbolisin­g the fruits of our harvest this year. e.g. Fruit, vegetables, home produce please leave them in before Friday next. The school children will be decorating the churches.

ALL BLACKS AFC.

All Blacks AFC under-13 schoolboys match report: Clerihan FC from Tipperary were our guests in Casey Park in the third round of the sfai cup. We produced our best performanc­e of the season with a 7-1 win with the goals coming from Tadhg Deegan 2, Luc Farrell 1, Tadhg McDonald 1, and a hattrick from man of the match Ben Rossiter. Dan Devereux was outstandin­g in defence on the day. Well done to all players, coaches and managers. All Blacks AFC under-11 schoolboys lost 4-2 to Gorey Celtic opposition home on Saturday, October 22. This game was a closely fought contest. Having been 2-0 down early in the second half, lads fought back to 2-2 with goals from Charlie Ellard and Fionn Mulligan but couldn’t hold out. Gorey combined with pressue striking two late goals for victory. Fair play to all the lads for a game that could have gone either way till the last few minutes.

SPLIT-THE-POT

RACKARD LEAGUE

Well done to the boys of Mayglass and Broadway Primary schools who won the Rackard League District Final over the past week overcoming Scoil Charman on a score line of 3-10 to 3-7.A massive congratula­tions to everyone involved from all at St Fintan’s GAA Club. The boys will never now contest the county semi-final. After a mighty battle the girls’ team lost their final by a narrow two points. the girls played their hearts out but it just wasn’t to be their day. Hard luck to all. You all did yourselves, families and schools proud.

FUNDRAISIN­G POSTPONED

Due to a number of different reasons and some time restraints the planned St Fintan’s Stars in their Eyes gala night planned for the Danby Lodge Hotel on November 19 has been postponed till early 2017. The fundraisin­g committee will be running a number of various fundraiser­s in the lead-up to Christmas with all money raised going towards the new clubhouse developmen­t. Tickets for a trailer-load of firewood will go on sale during this week at €5 for a book of three – please look out for the trailer at various locations over the coming weeks.

A table quiz will be held in November the details of which will be made known over the coming weeks.

A club Christmas party night will be held in Ye Olde Coopers Inn on Saturday, December 17, with music and finger food. The draw for the firewood will be held on the party night and plenty of other fun activities are planned.

BEREAVEMEN­T

Deepest sympathy is extended to the family and friends of the late Ronan Walsh, Cousinstow­n, Tomhaggard. Ronans remains were laid to rest in the new cemetery Kilmore following his funeral Mass in Rosslare Harbour. May he rest in peace.

KILLINICK ICA

The latest meeting of the guild was held on October 3 with president Mary Quirke and 16 members present. Two of the items discussed were the arranging of a coffee evening for November with the proceeds for Hospice home care and also the date for the Christmas party with the date for both to be confirmed at the November meeting. The competitio­n winners were first Mary Fenlon second Vormie Dolan third Mary Sinnott and the competitio­n for the next meeting is for the best arrangemen­t of autumn leaves. The hostesses for the November meeting will be Annie Colgan and Mary O’Mahony.

HALLOWEEN PARTY

The parents’ associatio­n of St Fintan’s National School will hold its annual Halloween party in Danby Lodge Hotel on Sunday, October 30, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. The party is open to all children not just those attending the school so tell all your friends. €5 per child or €10 per family this includesig­n a drink and crisps for each child. Hot food will also be provided. There will be a disco games and lots of fun to be had, everyone is encouraged to wear their Halloween costume. Children must be supervised at all times.

NIGHTS OF COMEDY

The Ballycogle­y Players will present their annual ‘Nights of Comedy’ under the title ‘Mayhem and Merriment’ at St Michael’s hall, Thomas St, Wexford from Thursday the 27th to Sunday, October 30, at 8 p.m. each night. It will feature two one-act plays and a surprise or two. Admission €10, tickets at the door.

SCOUTS

There will be no cub, scout and venture meetings next Wednesday, October 26, due to Fireworks display in Wexford. Beavers had an exciting conker picking outing to Johnstown Castle last Saturday, Cubs took part in county table quiz Friday night, while Scouts and Ventures have attended their Co. Scout and Venture forum. Congratula­tions to Colm Murray, scout leader who was part of Irish Air Corps Flag detail at the GPO, last week during ongoing 1916 Centenary Celebratio­ns.
