Spotlight on Lorraine in Universal Channel series

-

LORRAINE Galvin of Wexford RNLI is the focus of an episode in a new Universal Channel mini-series that focuses on inspiring individuals from the UK and Ireland.

In the short video, Lorraine talks about a frightening ordeal at the age of 16 during which her boat capsized at sea leaving her and five others in the water. Though there were no rescue services at the time, the group were lucky enough to be rescued by a passing fisherman and it was this experience that later encouraged Lorraine to join Wexford RNLI.

‘When you lose control of something like I did that night, the best way you can go forward is to take control and do something for the positive,’ she says in the video.

The video is part of Universal’s ‘100 per cent Character Uncovered’ series. It is currently being aired on the Universal Channel, as well as online. Lorraine is the only Irish person to be featured in the series, while her daughter Lauren also joined her in front of the camera.

‘It was quite humbling that they picked me. You don’t think of yourself in that regard as being inspiring,’ she said. ‘While we do risk our lives every day, it doesn’t seem extraordinary to us. It just becomes part of your life.’

‘I was delighted to be able to give the RNLI exposure as we rely completely on donations,’ she added.
