Kids dream up some winning art
‘DREAMS are made of this...’ was the theme of the 33rd Credit Union Art competition and all of the entrants in the local heat embraced it with great enthusiasm and creativity.
Dozens of budding young artists were presented with certificates at a recent ceremony in Wexford Credit Union and the first prize winners will now move forward to the chapter level of the competition. If the entrants are lucky enough to get through to and win at the national level, their artwork will be printed in the Credit Union calendar for 2017.
‘ The theme this year was “Dreams are made of this…”, which gave lots of scope to the entrants to utilise their self-expression, creativity and imagination. The entrants were very creative,’ said Chairperson of the Marketing Committee Joss O’ Connor in a speech at the prizegiving. ‘ Thanks again to the schools, local organisations and parents for their encouragement and interest in their children and in Wexford.’
Youth Officer for Wexford Credit Union John Roche presented the certificates to the winners.
The winners in the local round of the competition were as follows: 7 years and Under – 1st Cian Gordon; 2nd Jenna Louise Leacy; 3rd Caoimhe. 7 years and under (special) – 1st Bruce Fitzpatrick; 2nd Stephen Furlong; 3rd Kyle McCormick. 8-10 years – 1st Sophia Zipoli; 2nd Holly O’Rourke; 3rd Emily Isdell. 8-10 years (special) – 1st Mia Murphy; 2nd Daniel O’Brien; 3rd Charley Kelly. 11-13 Years – 1st Louis Pinaqui; 2nd Darragh Furlong; 3rd Emer O’Connor. 11-13 years (special) – 1st Darragh Moran; 2nd Bradley Hartigan; 3rd Orrin Murphy. 14-17 years – 1st Ciara Scullion; 2nd Eoghan Kirby; 3rd Hugo Lynn. 14-17 years (special) – 1st Cody Flynn; 2nd Rachel Woolley; 3rd Owen Thorpe. 18 years and over (special) – Eoin Craven.
The dates for the next heats of the competition are not set in stone but the national final is expected to be held in February or March 2017.
