Local crafts are put on display

THOSE seeking gifts for loved ones this Christmas may find it somewhere along in ‘ The Spirit of Wexford’ Exhibition and Gift Fair, which will be launched this Friday December 2 in Wexford Arts Centre.

In the upper gallery, members of the Wexford Craft Trail will come together to exhibit for the first time, showing their most prestigiou­s pieces and highlighti­ng the talent that Wexford craftspeop­le have to offer. In the adjoining gift fair, visitors are sure to find plenty of gift ideas including hand-thrown pots, fused glass mirrors and sun catchers, unique jewellery designs, lamps and lampshades or sculptures.

Those exhibiting include Mairead Stafford of Ballyellan­d Pottery; Annette Whelan of Creation Fused Glass; Gilly Thomas of Gilly Thomas Sculpture Gallery; Denis Kenny of Ceadogán; Gráinne Kenny of Gráinne Kenny Design; Johanna Roche of Kiltrea Bridge Pottery; Patsy Flood O’Connor of Mad4Hats; Martin Doyle of Martin Doyle Goldsmith; Paul Maloney of Paul Maloney Artisan Pottery and Prints; Robert O’Connor from The Woodturnin­g Studio; Terry Dunne the Weaver; Mairead Cairbre Embroidery; Padraic Parle from Bramble Crafts and The Forge; Patricia Howard of The Potter’s Yard and Dainius and Lina Varnellis from Varna Studio.

The official opening will take place at 6 p.m. and all are welcome to attend. Nibbles will be served afterwards in D’Lush Cafe.

The fair will run from December 2 until December 24, giving ample opportunit­y to pick up that special gift.

The Wexford Craft Trail are a group of 19 craftspeop­le, with 14 trail and five network members covering from north to south Wexford specialisi­ng in a diverse range of crafts. They were brought together as a group during 2012 and launched in 2014.
