Twins Rose and Peggy celebrate 90 years
FOR ONE person to make it to their 90th birthday is an achievement, but when twins reach that magical age it’s a very special occasion indeed.
Rose Walsh and Peggy Browne came into the world on November 28, 1926, in Carrigeen Street, Wexford, the eldest of eight children of Frank and Kitty Conway, and last weekend their respective families and friends got together to mark the occasion of their 90th birthday.
First up was Rose with a party in the Ferrycarrig Hotel on Saturday afternoon, where a crowd of more than 60 family and friends had congregated to help her mark the occasion. Unfortunately sister Peggy wasn’t well enough to attend, but her other surviving sisters Francie and Marie were there, as well as her six children, 15 of her 17 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren.
Highlight of the afternoon was an ‘All Our Yesterdays’ interview conducted by her son-in-law Mick Peelo, in which Rose and her sisters recalled their lives growing up in Wexford all those years ago.
There were also musical contributions from some of her children and grandchildren, including a musical internet message from grandson Oisin, who is currently in Ecuador.
Then on Sunday it was Peggy’s turn to party, with family and friends congregating in Kerlogue Nursing Home. Peggy’s four children, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren, as well as her sisters and extended family members and friends were there to sing a hearty Happy Birthday and help her blow out the candles on her cake.
Her son Paud paid tribute to Peggy and her twin Rose on their marvellous achievement in reaching this milestone age and looked forward to getting together again in 10 years’ time to celebrate their 100th.
