STORYTELLING
The next session of storytelling will take place on Sunday next, December 4, at Kyle Forge, commencing at 8 p.m. Refreshments are also served and all are most welcome.
APPRECIATION
Down’s Syndrome Wexford wish to thank most sincerely the people of Crossabeg for their generous donation of €258.20 taken up at a churchgate collection over the weekend of November 19 and 20.
ANNUAL CHRISTMAS FARE
The annual Christmas Fare organised by Annis Kehoe of Slaneylodge will be held in Kyle Forge on Saturday, December 10. This most popular fund-raising event is a date not to be missed.
On the day Annis will have all her usual Christmas puddings, cakes, pies, as well as preserves, tarts, jams, breads, wreaths and much much more to whet the appetites. Teas and coffees and tasty refreshments will also be served. The Forge will be nice and warm with a roaring fire and a lovely festive atmosphere. A raffle will also take place with many good and attractive prizes.
This year Annis is staying local with her charity as all proceeds are going to the Crosssbeg new community centre and playing fields at Garrywilliam. Contact Annis at 087 2426146 if you wish to place an early order.
CHRISTMAS PARTY
The annual Christmas party for the senior citizens of the parish will be held in the Ferrycarrig hotel on Sunday, December 11. The organising committee are busy calling on householders with raffle tickets and are seeking your generous support. These funds will help offset the costs of hosting the party. The annual Mass for all senior citizens, living and dead will be offered up in Crosssbeg church on Saturday, December 10, at 7 p.m.
55+ CLUB
The members of the local club will head off to Newbridge shopping centre today, Tuesday, November 29, for plenty of culture and retail therapy. The members will sit down to their Christmas dinner in Whitford Hotel on Tuesday, December 6, and anyone interested in joining up with the group is most welcome. Fr Finn will offer up the annual Christmas Mass in the Forge on Tuesday, December 13, at 2 p.m.
CHURCH NEWS
Daily Mass every Wednesday and Friday morning at 9.30 a.m. Adoration every Monday from two to 7.20 p.m with Mass at 7.30 p.m. Adoration then continues till 9 p.m. A meeting in regard to Adoration takes place in Kyle Forge this evening, Tuesday, November 29, at 7 p.m. Friday next, December 2, is the First Friday of the month and the sick and housebound of the parish will be visited at the usual times.
IMMACULATE CONCEPTION
Thursday, December 9, is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception and Mass will be offered up in Crossabeg church at 11.15 a.m. and again in the evening at 7 p.m.
NEW APPOINTMENT
Congratulations to Damian, son of Albert and Angela McDonald, Killeens, Crossabeg, on his recent appointment as Director General of the IFA which was announced last week. He is currently Chief Executive of Horse Sport Ireland and will take up his new role in early January.
ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
Crossabeg Childcare Centre will hold their annual general meeting on Wednesday, December 7, at 8 p.m in the childcare centre. On the night there will also be a talk from Peadar Maxwell, Senior Child Psychologist with the HSE in Wexford. He will be discussing relationship friendly strategies for encouraging important life skills in children. The topic will explore child/parent/ carer relationships and alternatives to consequences for children with behaviour problems.
SHOPPING BUS
Why not get all your Christmas shopping done under one roof in one day. Beat the December crowds and leave the car at home. A bus will leave Blackwater at 8 a.m and Oulart at 8.20 a.m on Saturday, December 3, and head straight to Blanchardstown shopping centre where you can shop to your hearts content where there are over 180 shops including Smyths Toys, Debenhams, Marks and Spencer’s etc. The bus will arrive at 10 a.m and leave again at 5 p.m. The cost is €20 per person and a €10 deposit is required to avoid disappointment. CHRISTMAS DRAW
The local GAA club are holding a Christmas raffle with a first prize of €1000, a second prize of a load of firewood, third and fourth prizes of €100 and a fifth prize of lunch for two in the Riverbank hotel. Tickets are now on sale at €5 each or three for €10.
SPECIAL OLYMPICS
At the Leinster swimming finals held at the Curragh Camp last weekend, Katie Dixon, Kyle, won a silver medal in the Back-stroke. Katie was just pipped at the finish for the gold medal. Katie also took home a bronze medal in the Breast-stroke final. Well done, Katie.
CONDOLENCES
We extend our condolences to Mary Quinn and family, Ballyharron on the death of her sister-inlaw, Kathleen Kehoe (née Larkin) Walkinstown, Co. Dublin and late of the Commons, Tournafulla, Co. Limerick, and ex Coolanick, Oylegate. Her funeral Mass took place in Oylegate church yesterday, Monday, at midday with burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.
Condolences also to Frances McDonald, Lonsdale and Bee Gayer, Killowen, on the death of their Aunt, Philomena Kinsella, Ballycarney, whose funeral took place following Mass in Castledockrell church on Sunday last to Marshalstown cemetery.
Condolences also to Noreen McDermott and family, Kyle, on the death of her Aunt, Sr. M. Perpetua, (Catherine Hickey) Convent of Mercy, Charleville (ex Millstreet, Co.Cork) who died at St Martha’s nursing home, Charleville on Saturday of last week. She entered the convent on February 1, 1940, and made her final profession on November 7, 1942 – over 76 years in religious life. Her funeral Mass took place in the Convent chapel yesterday, Monday, with burial afterwards in the convent cemetery. May they all rest in peace.
DEVELOPMENT LOTTO
Results of the Curracloe United Lotto for Sunday November 20th as follows:- the numbers drawn were 13, 18, 22 & 23. There was no jackpot winner and one match 3 winner, Tommy Mahon, c/o Darragh Connor who received €150. Tickets are on sale throughout the parish from committee members and the draw takes place every Sunday night at 9 p.m.
SCREEN HALL NEWS
Screen hall committee held their annual general meeting on November 9 and were very pleased that all the goals they set during the past year were realised and were warm in their praise for the outgoing committee.
The hall is a wonderful asset and the committee continues to welcome new suggestions for its use. At the moment it caters for various fitness classes,kids birthday parties, meetings, charity events, and coming soon Arts and Crafts classes for little ones and junior drama classes also. New activities are always welcome so contact Sharon on 0868702199 for booking information.

IRISH NIGHT
The Rose of Shelmalier committee would like to thank the many people who supported their bingo and Irish night held in the Porter House in Castlebridge on Sunday last. There was great excitement as Aidan O`Leary called out the numbers as those present were glued to their bingo books hoping to win one of the large prizes on offer. Some of the lucky winners were Conor Roche, Josephine Kelly and Sinead Kelly. The night started and finished with the best of Irish music.
SHELMALIER PARTY
The Shelmalier Christmas party takes place in Hotel Curracloe on Friday, December 16. The party is always a great social occasion and promises to be a great night out for the whole parish.
To add to the excitement and enjoyment the night will also include a special Mr and Mrs competition with many local couples finding out how well they know their partner and a presentation to the Shelmalier Junior hurling team in recognition of their great performances during the year and being crowned county junior hurling champions for 2016.
Admission is only €10, with the band Freeway playing and finger food served. As there is an expected great demand on tickets you are advised to get your tickets as soon as possible and they can be obtained from any player or club member.
UNDER 21 FOOTBALL
All roads lead to St Patricks Park on Sunday next when the Shelmalier under 21 footballers take on near neighbours Crossabeg/Ballymurn in the under 21 premier final. The match will begin at 2 p.m. This game will see many friends and relations competing on both sides, so it promises to be a big attraction. We with the team and its management the best of luck.
