REPRINT OF BOOK

In 2008 our book ‘OylegateA Look Back in Time’ was published and it sold out in three weeks. Since then, many people have asked about getting a copy. The Oylegate-Glenbrien Journal Committee is now considering ordering a reprint, possibly in soft cover.

At present we would like to gauge the level of interest in purchasing the book. If you would like to buy a copy please contact email oylegateparishnews@yahoo.com/Call or Text: Tom Miller at 086 8677334 giving your contact details. The Journal Committee will then get back to you in due course. The book, in soft back, will cost approx. €20 per copy, and a non-refundable deposit of €10 would be needed to place an order, if we go ahead with the venture.

‘Oylegate-Glenbrien, A Look Back in Time’ is an invaluable historical record for those of us who live in Oylegate-Glenbrien and it would make a wonderful gift for family and friends who no longer live locally and may even be abroad. The closing date for ordering your copy will be January 15, 2017. residents and locals to the rich history and attractions of the area.

SENIOR HURLING

Commiserations to our gallant senior hurlers and management on their defeat, in the semi-final of the Leinster club-championship on November 20; but just as happened after our exit from the Wexford championship in 2014 ‘we will rise up from the ground and we’ll go another round’. Indeed, the reports of our demise are greatly exaggerated.

Naturally, all involved are very disappointed at relinquishing our Leinster crown but the challenges of 2017 beckon as players and mentors take a much-needed break in order to return re-invigorated. In the meantime, supporters and detractors can ponder on the high standards and amazing achievements of this group of athletes who are always gracious, dignified and uncomplaining, even when Lady Luck occasionally deserts them.

SCÓR NA NÓG WINNER

Congratulations to Declan Sinnott, Ballineroad who represented Oulart-The Ballagh in the Recitation Section of Scór na nÓg Final in Clonroche Community Centre on November 19 and came away as the winner (for the second year in – a row) having given a fine rendition of ‘The Hurler’s Dream’. Declan will now represent Co. Wexford in the Leinster semi-finals.

CRAFT FAIR

Despite the very cold weather on November 20, the Craft Fair, held in the Bygone Days House of stories, was very well attended and supported. Sincere thanks to all the women and men who took tables at the Fair in support of the Thatching Fund. An extra special thanks to those who manned their stalls outdoors in the bitter conditions. The winners of the raffle were Cathy Keane, Enniscorthy, Mary Murphy, Glenbrien and Ann Martin, Gorey.
