Nicola memorial scholarship presented to Dylan in DCU
DYLAN BRAZIL has been awarded the Nicola Furlong Memorial Scholarship.
A former pupil of Good Counsel College, Dylan is studying Aviation Management in Dublin City University (DCU).
A member of the Aviation Society in DCU, 18-year-old Dylan has always been interested in Business and Aviation. He was among 15 students who were awarded scholarships in honour of past students, graduates or notable figures in Irish society in recognition of the awardees academic or sporting achievements.
The awards were presented by the President of DCU, Professor Brian MacCraith and Mary Shine Thompson, a trustee of the DCU Educational Trust.
In May 2012, the DCU community were saddened and shocked by the news of the tragic death of 21-year-old Nicola Furlong from Curracloe.
Nicola, who was in her third year of an International Business and Languages course with Japanese at DCU, was studying in Takasaki City University of Economics in Takasaki, northwest of Tokyo, as part of her DCU course. She had been in Japan for a year and was due to return home that July.
Nicola’s father Andrew told this newspaper that all of the money raised through the Nicola Furlong Memorial Fund, including €10,000 for the DCU scholarships, has helped people, including sick children.
According to staff and friends, Nicola was a warm, studious and friendly young woman, who was well liked among her fellow students. Nicola’s sister Andrea collected Nicola’s degree in International Business and Languages in Dublin in 2013.
