Gorey ladies shine after break

-

GOREY 29, PORTARLINGTON 8: Gorey Ladies travelled to Portarlington on Sunday to take on NM Falcons.

The Gorey team made the trip in the hope of getting back to winning ways after drawing away to C.Y.M. last time out. The first-half was very much a victory for both defences.

Both teams attempted to break the deadlock but strong defence kept the scoreline at 0-0 at half-time.

In what was definitely a game of two halves, Gorey broke the deadlock four minutes into the second-half with Tríona Murray making a good run and scoring a try.

NM Falcons then closed the gap with a penalty. Gorey then went on the attack again and after some strong forward play, Caoimhe Molloy scored a try.

From the re-start Gorey went on the attack once more and Róisín Murphy made a strong run, scoring a try which was converted by Lorraine Gahan.

Falcons then asserted some pressure on the Gorey defence and made the breakthrough by scoring a try. Gorey then went in search of a bonus point with some quick thinking from Lauren Farrell who took a quick penalty and scored to capture the bonus point.

Gorey were determined not to let Falcons get another score on the board and kept up the defensive pressure which led to a turnover from which Gorey launched another attack.

Again strong ball-carrying from the forwards around the ruck led to Eimear Hickey going over for the try, which Lorraine Gahan converted to leave a final score of 29-8 in favour of Gorey.

Gorey’s last game before the Christmas break is next Sunday at home to Suttonians at 1 p.m.
