New Ancient East signs to encourage longer stays in county
NEW signs being erected around Wexford are designed to encourage visitors to stay longer in the county.
The new Ireland’s Ancient East signs are part of the first phase of Fáilte Ireland’s orientation signage.
Ten key visitor orientation signs have now installed in the county and Wexford was the first county to have such signs erected with the first of the newly designed signs installed at the Dunbrody Famine Ship Experience in New Ross and at Ferns Castle earlier this year.
These signs are part of a multi signage programme envisaged for Ireland’s Ancient East with similar branded orientation signage expected to be in place at 80 key sites throughout the region soon.
Ireland’s Ancient East signage, designed to encourage tourists to stay and explore the wider region, are now strategically sited in Wexford at: Dunbrody Abbey, Ferns Castle, Hook Lighthouse, Irish National Heritage Park, Johnstown Castle, Kennedy Homestead, Loftus Hall, Wells House & Gardens, JFK Memorial Park and Dunbrody Famine Ship.
Fáilte Ireland’s Head of Ireland’s Ancient East, Jenny De Saulles said: ‘ These signs are situated at key visitor hot-spots in order to encourage tourists to explore further and stay longer. The signs inform visitors of all the other interesting things to see and do within an hour’s drive in every direction and are intended to open up a range of possibilities for tourists to enjoy in Wexford.’
Shaped as a large spiral wheel, each branded sign highlights a range of sites within up to 60 minutes’ drive away from the sign location to encourage visitors to extend their stay and visit more than just the primary sites.
