CORACH RAMBLERS FC

This week’s split-the-pot winner is Paul Browne, Carrig. Paul scoops a brilliant €833, congratulations Paul. Thanks again to everyone for your continuous support.

The A team were away to St Cormac’s today for their last game before the Christmas break, always a tough place to get a result and we travelled today with six of our regular squad missing but we showed our strength in depth by coming away with a hard fought 2-0 win, Cormac’s started fast but our lads weren’t letting them get any chance at goal and we slowly started playing ourselves into the game.

It wasn’t a great day for playing ball as it was a bobbly slippy surface so we used more long balls than normal with MJ covering a lot of ground as the lone striker and he was ably backed up by Richie, Jon and Ollie, with Mark and Chops putting in plenty of tackles in midfield and winning their fair share of them and our back four of Adam, Mick, Aaron and Consie outstanding, We were limiting Cormac’s to half chances and the one time when they did get through after 20 minutes an excellent save from Darren as he went full length to his right and tipped it over the bar to keep it scoreless.

We weren’t creating a lot of chances but on the half hour we won a corner which Consie whipped in and when the ball broke to Richie eight yards out he drove it to the roof of the net. Three minutes later Mark played a long ball into the corner which ended up as a throw for us and from the throw Richie whipped in a great cross which was brilliantly sent to the net at the near post by Ollie for a 2-0 lead. It should have been three on 40 minutes when MJ got through but couldn’t beat the keeper.

In the second half Cormac’s stepped up a gear but we defended brilliantly and were causing them a lot of trouble on the counter attack and could have added to our score but Chops was narrowly off target and MJ was kept out by the keeper. We used all three subs in the second half with Tadhg coming on for Jon, Darragh for Mark and Adrian for Ollie, there is nothing won yet but it is days like this that you give yourself a chance. So enjoy your Christmas and we will go again in the New Year

And that’s it for 2016, here’s hoping the success the club enjoyed in the past 12 months carries on into 2017.

We would like to wish all our players, coaches, committee members, supporters, friends and families a very happy Christmas and a great New Year.
