American woman Kathleen Ann laid to rest in Wexford

THE death has taken place of Kathleen Ann Dallas, a 63-year old well-travelled American woman who had been living in Wexford for about six months.

Ms. Dallas had travelled all over the world and had been residing in Ireland for a number of years. Recently, she was living in lodgings in Davitt Road South.

She died on Sunday, December 18 at Wexford General Hospital where she had been receiving treatment for illness for a few weeks.

Following her death, the American Embassy in Ballsbridge, Dublin provided assistance to funeral undertaker Paddy Mulligan of The Faythe in tracing her family who live outside New York.

Ms. Dallas is survived by her elderly mother Barbara B Dallas; her four sisters Margaret Valentine, Susan Mann, Anne Vernon and Clare Genn; her aunt Frances Blake; her 11 nieces and nephews, and her extended family and friends.

Kathleen was born and raised in the US and later attended University College, Cork.

Members of her family were unable to travel to Ireland for the burial. They asked Mr. Mulligan to ensure she was given a Catholic funeral. Requiem Mass took place in Bride Street Church last Thursday, celebrated by Fr. James Cullen with burial aferwards in St. Ibar’s Cemetery, Crosstown.

Among those who attended the funeral were Ms. Dallas’s landlady in Wexford and a staff nurse representing Wexford General Hospital.
