Work needed at Ferrycarrig bridge
A new junction layout has been proposed at Ferrycarrig Bridge to improve road safety.
Cllr Anthony Kelly laid down a notice of motion at last Monday’s meeting of Wexford Borough District calling on the council to ‘consider installing a new junction layout at the junction at Ferrycarrig Bridge, the R730 road and the N11 road, that would either accommodate a mini-roundabout or traffic lights’.
Cllr Kelly said it is a very dangerous junction which had been the scene of numerous accidents.
‘I think it is very important to address the junction there. It’s particularly difficult to get out onto the N11 in the mornings and evenings.’
He was supported by Cllr Mick Roche and engineer Lar Lett said that he would examine the area.
Cllr Deirdre Wadding said that the area is currently the subject of a speed review by Transport Infrastructure Ireland which is contemplating increase the speed limit there which she said would be dangerous. She said that increasing the speed would lead to more accidents.
She also said that visibility at the junction was poor.
Cllr Davy Hynes said there had been a lot of accidents here and a mini roundabout or traffic lights ‘would be one way of improving safety’.
District manager Angela Laffan said Transport Infrastructure Ireland are willing to receive a delegation from the council to discuss the speed limit review.
