Reunionofour1968 All-Irelandwinners
January 1994
Wexford’s sporting stars of 1968 re-united over the festive holiday to mark the 25th anniversary of their never-to-be-forgotten All-Ireland victories.
Ferrycarrig Hotel was the venue for the enjoyable post- Christmas gathering of the hurling, camogie and handball stars of the past who will live on in the memory of sports followers throughout the county.
A crowd in the region of 180 people attended the reunion, with most of the 1968 senior hurling team among them.
Several members of the triumphant minor side were also present, along with the camogie champions, and Wexford’s All-Ireland winning handballers of ’68, Dick Lyng and Seamus Buggy.
Minor team stalwart Larry Byrne was the MC for the evening, while Co. Chairman Joe O’Shaughnessy bestowed lavish praise on the stars of ’68 on behalf of the County Board.
Other speakers were senior hurling captain Dan Quigley, his minor counterpart Tom Byrne, and Dominic Kiernan, who trained the successful camogie team.
A special momento of the occasion, sponsored by Wexford Creamery, was presented to each member of the camogie side.
The key figures in the organisation of the event were Larry Byrne, Ned Colfer, and Brigid Doyle, three people who also played important roles on the field 25 years ago.
