GAA CLUB NEWS

The numbers drawn in the recent Crossabeg-Ballymurn GAA Club lotto draw were 7, 10, 15 and 19. Match-three winners were Tina Murphy, Bridie Fagan and Eddie, Mag and Aaron Balfe. The next lotto draw takes place on January 4 when the jackpot is worth €5,400. The club wishes to thank all their lotto buyers and sellers for their support during the year and sends good wishes for a prosperous 2017.

The results of the Christmas draw were as follows: Lily Cummins (€1000) Michael O’Grady (load of firewood) Jack O’Brien (€100) Tommy Kinlough (€100) Kieran Bresnan (lunch in the Riverbank hotel) Thanks to all who supported the raffle.

AGM – Crossabeg-Ballymurn GAA Club will hold their annual general meeting on Friday, January 6, at 8.30 p.m. in Ballymurn hall. All members and interested parties are welcome to attend. Mass for the deceased members will take place in Ballymurn church on Saturday, January 7, at 8.15 p.m.

CHURCH NEWS

Mass for the Feast of the Epiphany, Friday, January 6, will be offered up at 11 a.m. and again in the evening at 7 p.m. Friday next, January 6, is the First Friday of the month and the sick and housebound of thepparish will be visited at the usual times. Confession­s are held every Saturday evening at 6 p.m. Prayer meeting every Wednesday evening at 8 p.m. in the parochial house.

FERRYCARRI­G FIVE MILE

The annual Ferrycarri­g five road race will take place on Sunday, January 8. Organised by the local St Killian’s Athletic club with proceeds going to the new Crossabeg community field and centre, this very popular event is now in its fifth year and growing in stature and numbers every year. The event gets under way from the local Wexford Youths FC grounds in Newcastle, heads out the main gate, turns left and heads off down to Newcastle cross, and comes out at Kitestown cross, up to Kyle Cross and finishes up at the Wexford Youths grounds.

As usual the committee are working hard towards the target of a friendly community event with a serious athletic competitio­n included. Details of the race course, entry form and other details can all be checked out on Facebook.

OPERATIONT­RANSFORMAT­ION

Crossabeg-Ballymurn Ladies Gaelic Football club once again will present ‘Operation Transforma­tion and Between the Bells’ in 2017. This is a community fitness activity for all members of the family who can get fit together.

The club organised the event this year as a fundraiser to get the community up and active. It proved to be an outstandin­g success and once again the committee will be running it on the same format in January, 2017. The fitfun will begin at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 3, and finishes on Tuesday, February 21. The final ‘get together’ will take place on Tuesday, February 28.

CONDOLENCE­S

We extend our condolence­s to Mr Tony Redmond and family, Kyle, on the death of his sister Breda Casserley, who died recently in Birmingham, England. RIP.

ATHLETICS

Juvenile training for St Killian’s AC membetrs for the winter months now takes place in the hall in Crossabeg school and takes place every Monday and Thursday evening from seven to 8.15 p.m. Children aged seven years upwards are most welcome. Training has taken a break for the Christmas holidays. Then it’s all systems go again on Monday, January 9.
