GAA LOTTO

The St Fintan’s GAA lotto now stands at €3,300 and tickets can be purchased from local shops and the club grounds on Tuesday evenings from 8 p.m. and from club members at a cost of €1.50. There is also a match-three prize of €300 up for grabs each week. The numbers drawn in the last draw were 10, 12, 27 and 30 and the next draw will take place on January 10. COUNTRY MUSIC FESTIVAL

Five of Ireland’s leading artists are confirmed to play the South East Country Music Festival 2017 at Killag, on July 30. A stellar lineup of artists includes Nathan Carter, Mike Denver, Jimmy Buckley, Cliona Hagan and Lee Matthews.

CALLING ALL under-10 under-12 under-14 girls. We are having a New year party in Leisure Max on Tuesday, January 3, from 5 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. this will be a fun evening for all girls with games, bowling and food provided. BEREAVEMEN­TS

Deepest sympathy is extended to the family and friends of Betty Kelly Killinick, Rosie Miskella Mulrankin and Anna Moore Coalspit Ballycogle­y all of whom sadly died during the recent past. May they rest in peace.

DRAMA

The Ballycogle­y Players drama group would like to wish its fellow groups and loyal supporters a very Happy New Year. The group sends its deepest sympathy to fellow group member Aidan Miskella and his family on the sad passing of his mother Rosie.

SCOUTS

The annual scout investitur­e was held in Tomhaggard during the recent past with guest speakers Dano O’Leary (County Commission­er) and Mayor Frank Staples in attendance.

Two scouts Josh Quigley Power and Haley Power received Chief scout certificat­e of merit for their raising of €2,170 for the Syrian refugee crisis which they presented to councillor Frank Staples on behalf of Trocaire. Anna Power and Peter Lyons received five-year service Awards and May Doyle received a 20 year service Award while the group received an SQS Quality Scouting Award. Congratula­tions, all. were Duncannon, Bridgetown, Killinick, Kilmore Quay, and Our Lady’s Island. Over 50 ladies attended on the night.

A very informativ­e talk was given by Betty O’Neill nutritioni­st from the Natural Health Store. This was followed by a comedy sketch and some fun recitation­s and a raffle. The evening was rounded off with refreshmen­ts and a very enjoyable time was had by all.

Four guild members attended the Federation Meeting in the Ferrycarri­g Hotel on Monday, November 28, 2016. The tree of Remembranc­e was unveiled by Deirdre Connery and is decorated in memory of past ICA members. The projects made from the sample books project were displayed on the night. Carrig-on-Bannow guild were lucky to win one of seven scholarshi­ps to An Grianan. Philip McCabe, the bee keeper at An Grianan was the guest speaker on the night and spoke in detail about beekeeping and the medical benefits and uses of honey.

The Christmas night out was held in the Red Door on Monday, December 5, with everyone enjoying a lovely meal, a great start to the festive season. The next guild meeting will be on Monday, January 9, at 7.30 p.m. and new members are very welcome.

A meeting will be held in Rathangan Hall at 8.30 p.m. on Thursday, January 7, to discuss issues relating to Ambrosetow­n Graveyard. All those with an interest in the cemetery are welcome to attend.

GRANTSTOWN NEWS

SAD PASSING

Deepest sympathy to Michael Neville and family on the death of his mother Mai Neville (née Neville) at Wexford General Hospital. Mai was a well-known and liked retired dressmaker from Balloughto­n and she is survived by her son Michael, daughter-inlaw Marian, sister Sadie, grandchild­ren, relatives and friends. Mai was waked at her residence on Friday and her removal was Saturday to Carrig church for 10 am funeral Mass and burial afterwards in Kilcaven cemetery. May she rest in peace.

Deepest sympathy to Tom Carthy and family Littlegrai­gue on the death of his brother Jack Carthy in Wexford County Hospital last Sunday, December 25. Jacks remains were taken to Carrig Church on Tuesday evening for 7 p.m. and funeral Mass was Wednesday at 10 a.m. with burial afterwards in Bannow cemetery. Jack is survived by family and friends. May he rest in peace. Membership fees will remain the same as last year which are as follows: underage €30, Adult €50, family membership – two for €50 three for €75. New players are always welcome to come and join us.

We would like to thank John Byrne carpentry for sponsoring our disco, Murphys Daybreak and Bridies Bar for the minerals and Mary for the use of the hall. A great start to our feile fundraisin­g.

A Happy New Year to all our members. Next Week will see the County Bowls competitio­n return and a number of fixtures will take place. Check our Facebook page for details. Leisuremax will have our normal Monday morning competitio­ns on New Year’s Day at 10.30 a.m.

Two correction­s to the item in the recent news outlets: the Executive meeting is on Monday, January 16, in the Kilmore GAA Clubrooms while the monthly meeting will be on Thursday, January 19, at 7.30 p.m. in the GAA Clubrooms.

Bowls: The Kilmore Seals will play New Ross Beta on Tuesday, January 3, at 2 p.m. in the SMC. This is a re-fixture. The Kilmore Gulls will play Gorey on Thursday, January 5, at a time to be yet confirmed in Gorey, this is also a re-fixture.
