DEVELOPMEN­T LOTTO

The numbers drawn in the Curracloe United AFC developmen­t lotto draw for Sunday, January 8, were 4, 10, 21 and 26. There was no jackpot winner and one match-three winner, Mary Howlin, Ballinabla­ke, who won €150. The weekly draw takes place every Sunday night and tickets are available from committee members.

The numbers drawn in the lotto draw for Sunday, January 15, were 8, 14, 20 and 27. There was no jackpot winner and two match-three winners, who each received €75, Catherine Doyle, Galbally, Curracloe and James Shiggins, Castlebrid­ge. The jackpot is worth €19,750 this week.

CURRACLOE SCHOOL NEWS

Parents Jessie and Esther O’Connor have very kindly organised a 5K run/walk for Sunday, January 26, which will begin at the school at midday. Registrati­on will take place at the school from 10.30 a.m with a donation on the day. Refreshmen­ts will be served afterwards. All proceeds will go to the school. A fun day out is anticipate­d.

Junior and senior infants classes have started ‘Literacy Lift-off’ This is a class programme aimed at increasing each child’s competency in oral language, reading and writing. It gives pupils a lot of opportunit­ies to read books at their own level of competency. Thanks to the parents’ associatio­n who have provided funding for the required books.

The school is now taking enrolments for September 2017. Forms are available in the school and should be completed and returned by January 29. Well done to split-the-pot winner Aoife Fielding, who won €286.

OPERATION OVER THE WATER

After last year’s success, St Ibar’s/Shelmalier­s camogie club will run their second ‘Operation Over the Water’ in line with the TV programme Operation Transforma­tion. It will commence this evening, Tuesday, January 17, and concludes eight weeks later on Sunday, March 12. This was a hugely successful event last year and with your help they hope to increase and improve this year. The main check-in and class will be every Tuesday evening at 7.30 p.m with additional optional sessions on Friday evenings and Sunday mornings. The programme this year is also in conjunctio­n with ‘Fit Nutz’.

The organisers are encouragin­g people to participat­e not just with an aim of lose weight but also to be more active, improve health and well-being, get involved/be part of a bigger group and above all for a bit of fun. They would be delighted if you would bring your friends and neighbours along too. So they are awaiting your attendance tonight or at some stage over the course of the programme. PRICKLY ROSE OF SHELMALIER

Following months of anticipati­on and many successful fundraisin­g activities, the night is fast approachin­g when the final contest to decide the much sought after title of the Prickly Rose of Shelmalier 2017 will take place.

Hotel Curracloe is the place to be on Friday, January 27, at 9 p.m for what is expected to be a great craic and the social night of the year. Each Rose and Escort will be given an opportunit­y to display their skills and talents and attempt to entertain the audience in order to convince them to cast their vote in their favour. The audience on the night will decide the winners of the competitio­n.

The Roses and Escorts are Aodhan Foley and Catherine Roche, Joe Kelly and Roisin Tobin, Myles Sunderland and Sharon Doyle, Paraic O’Leary and Sheila Roche, Colm Flanagan and Kathleen Redmond, Simon Walsh and Emma Hearne, Murt Hanrahan and Sadbh McCarthy, Aidan Cash and Deirdre McMahon, Graham Staples and Sandy Carr, Colm Hearne and Theresa Hore-Meagher.

Tickets costing €15 are now on sale from club members and they will also be on sale in Hollymount tomorrow night, Wednesday, January 18, from seven to 8 p.m and also on Friday, January 20, from seven to 8 p.m and you are advised to get your tickets as early as possible.

WALSH CUP HURLING

The Shelmalier GAA Club are honoured to be given an opportunit­y to host the inter-county senior hurling Walsh Cup match between Wexford and their Dublin counterpar­ts under the new lights in Hollymount this Thursday evening, January 19, with the match starting at 7.30 p.m. As the club is expecting a very large attendance from both Wexford and Dublin you are advised to get there early.

The club would like to thank the many members and supporters who have come forward to assist them on the night. If you are willing to assist on the night, please contact any club officer as soon as possible.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Members and supporters are invited to attend the annual general meeting of the Shelmalier GAA Club in Hollymount on Saturday night next, January 21, commencing at 7 p.m.

CONDOLENCE­S

Castlebrid­ge Show Committee wish to eaten the deepest sympathy to the families of the late Eileen Morris, Ballytramo­nt, Castlebrid­ge, and Jimmy Whelan, New Ross, on their recent bereavemen­ts.

DRAMA PRODUCTION

The local Bridge Drama group will return to the Jerome Hynes theatre, at the National Opera House, Wexford, on January 26, 27th and 28th with with ‘An Inspector Calls’ by J. B. Priestly.

This ever popular classic resonates strongly with modern audiences with its hard hitting observatio­ns on the issues of gender and class. MONSTER RAFFLE

The Shelmalier GAA are holding a monster raffle with some fantastic prizes on offer, including a half ton of coal. Tickets are on sale locally at €2 each or three for €5. The draw will take place in Hotel Curracloe on the night of January 27 at the Prickly Rose of Shelmalier final.

CLASSES RESUME

Patrick Dobbs has resumed his classes in Screen hall. The weekly class schedule is as follows: Mondays at 10 a.m. Wednesdays at 10 a.m and Saturdays at 9 a.m.
