Donegal native joins football squad

-

FORMER DONEGAL under-age player, Peter Devine, is included in the Wexford Senior football squad to continue preparations for the Allianz League.

Devine, from the St. Eunan’s club (Letterkenny), is a teacher at Enniscorthy C.B.S., and has been training with the Wexford squad over recent months. He has been linked to a possible transfer to Castletown.

The squad includes a number of new faces, with Under-21 duo Ian Carty (Taghmon-Camross) and Ronan Devereux (Crossabeg-Ballymurn) both featuring for the first time.

Other additions are Tom Byrne (Kilmore), Jake Firman (St. Martin’s), James Stafford (Glynn-Barntown), Ryan Nolan (Ferns St. Aidan’s), and Conor Swaine (Horeswood), who is likely to battle it out with Shane Roche for the goalkeeping post.

Another interesting inclusion is Adrian Flynn who has resumed training after specialists informed him that they would not be operating on his knee after the injury he sustained in Gusserane’s county final victory.

Kieran Butler, who played in last year’s championship, is a notable absentee from the panel, while Paddy Byrne hasn’t made the cut either.

Wexford’s opening game in the league is at home to Limerick on February 5 in Innovate Wexford Park.

The Shannonsiders underlined that they will be tough opponents when they took Kerry to extra-time before succumbing in the McGrath Cup final in the Gaelic Grounds on Sunday.

The 33-man squad is as follows: Brian Malone, Daithí Waters, John Leacy, Ben Brosnan, Joey Wadding, Shane Roche, Michael Furlong, Michael O’Regan, Rob Tierney, Niall Hughes, Naomhan Rossiter, Eoghan Nolan, Jim Rossiter, Kevin O’Grady, Ciarán Lyng, Colm Kehoe, P.J.
