LEGIA LOOK THE PART
Seven goals scored in best show so far
A.F.C. LEGIA produced their best performance of the season to secure the points away to Camolin Celtic in Under-12 Division 2A of the Wexford and District Schoolboys Soccer League on Saturday.
Both sides were unfortunate to have just a lone win under their belts coming into the weekend’s tie. The victors, in particular, have been playing well against good teams but not picking up the points.
However, everything clicked for the Foulksmills-based club in this encounter, as they were excellent. On the ball, it’s rare a team so young has as much awareness of those around them, and their heads-up, search for the right ball, totally relaxed, style baffled their opponents at times.
As well as that, some of their attacking moves and passes in tight areas were exceptional. Maybe only being held back by a little inexperience and a lack of numbers, Legia are a side to keep an eye out for in the coming months.
They had just started to gain the upper hand when they took the lead in the twelfth minute. Filip Waskewski got away on the right, using first his pace and then his guile, before he squared for Kuba Waskewski to fire low past Liam Doyle.
The goal sent a shot of confidence through the visitors and quickly Kuba Waskewski burst clear on the left of goal and poked home to make it 2-0.
Great work in midfield by Matus Kosorv allowed Szymon Kot to pounce on Waskewski’s blocked shot for a third Legia goal in as many minutes.
Diarmuid O’Sullivan hared away at the other end but a fantastic cover tackle by the outstanding Kamil Walkosz snuffed out the danger. Minutes later Jason Kehoe-Murphy was impeded on the edge of the area but the wall blocked Keith Curran’s resulting free.
Eoin Doyle was next to go close for the hosts, blasting into the side-netting in the 25th minute. Yet there was more pain for Celtic just before the break as Jan Wozmak slid Filip Waskewski into the clear and he coolly broke away and netted.
The third quarter was fairly uneventful. Legia looked comfortable with their lead, except the few times Conal Dunne was given good possession on the left wing. The fifth goal did come in the 45th minute when Filip Waskewski registered his second with a tidy poked finish.
The longer the game wore on, the more dangerous Legia became again. Lucas Kinsella kept the visitors at bay for a while but could do nothing to deny Kuba Waskewski his hat-trick goal with six minutes left.
It was left to Wozmak to put the finishing touches on a stunning Legia victory in the final minute, sliding home Kozorv’s delicate pass to make it seven and move A.F.C. up to fifth in the Division 2A table.
