LADIES’ ROUND-UP St. Joseph’s tops in a thrilling tie

Tombrack United 3, St. Joseph’s 4: Division 2A leaders St. Joseph’s eventually booked their place in the quarter-finals when they resisted a spirited comeback by Tombrack United in this seven-goal thriller.

The visitors led 4-1 thanks to a hat-trick from Tracey McCormack and a Pamela Walsh goal, but two from Mary Boland and one from Breda Cushen saw Tombrack battle back although were unable to find that elusive equaliser.

Benfica FC 5, East End United 3: The home side eventually recorded their first win of the season when they overcame East End 5-3 in this eight-goal thriller.

Aine Lannon, Laura Dooley and Lauren Valentine were on target for East End, but goals from Therese O’Neill, Leah O’Donoghue, Lisa Dower and two from Kate Hurley gave Benfica a valuable three points.

Women’sDivision1

Bree United 0, North End United 2: North End remain unbeaten and made it eight wins from eight as they overcame Bree 2-0. Goals from Martina Pender and Sara Byrne moved the visitors an incredible twelve points clear at the top of the table.

Kilmore United 1, Piltown FC 1: The race for second place is becoming very tight with three teams now locked on twelve points with two games to go. Katrina Parrock gave Kilmore the lead, but Jody Keane levelled for Piltown late in the second-half and although both sides went in search of a winner, they had to be content with a point each.

Cloughbawn AFC 2, Camolin Celtic 0: The home side returned to the top of the table after they overcame Camolin 2-0 and are rapidly closing in on their second league title in a row.

Gina Foley continued her good scoring form as she scored both goals in this win over a hard-working Camolin side.

Shelburne FC 1, Wexford Bohs 0: Shelburne picked up all three points in this closely-contested encounter as they eventually broke down a hard-working Bohs defence. Shauna Cowman scored the only goal of the game to give her side their third victory of the season.

Courtown Hibs 2, Rosslare Rangers 0: Hibs returned to the top of the table and are making a valiant effort to prove the tipsters wrong and pip Bunclody for the title as they recorded their eight win of the season. After a scoreless first-half, Donna O’Brien put them in front and Aoife Gleeson put the game beyond doubt with a penalty.

Stoney LFC 0, Cushinstown AFC 1: Cushinstown recorded a major upset when beating title challengers Stoney 1-0 in Horetown but on recent performances, this was not as big a shock as it might seem. A second-half goal from Jade Howlett saw Cushinstown take all three points.

Ajax Athletic 1, St. Cormac’s 2: St. Cormac’s kept their promotion hopes alive with a 2-1 win away to an Ajax side which is improving with every game. Emilia Kantowicz was on target for the home side while Kelly McLoughlin and Lorraine Fortune both scored for St. Cormac’s.

Bridge Rovers 0, Fastnet Rovers 5: Fastnet are also still in the hunt for promotion after this 5-0 win away to a youthful Bridge Rovers side. Annie Breen scored a hat-trick for the visitors with Eadaoin Miskella and new signing Jennifer Martin also finding the net.
