CORACH NEWS

The A-team were away to st Cormac’s today in the first round of the Neil o Sullivan cup and came away with a hard fought 3-2 win. Always a tough place to go to, there wasn’t a lot between the teams in the first 20 minutes but then Cormac’s struck first when we didn’t deal with a through ball and we went 1-0 down. We had a chance to level on 27 minutes when a good ball forward from consie was knocked on by MJ to Gareth, who was taken down in the box but Niall saw his penalty well saved by the keeper.

We were level on the half hour when a Cormac’s kick out was won by Richie and MJ played Gareth through and he finished calmly. We were on top now and took the lead on 34 when a free from Adam was knocked on by Gareth and MJ got there first to put it past the keeper and it stayed like that till half time.

Cormac’s started the better in the second half and equalised on 62 minutes. Two minutes later we took the lead again when Gareth got his second after some good work by Mj. We had another couple of chances to make it safe but didn’t take them.

It wasn’t our best performance but a heavy pitch and the fact that we hadn’t played for four weeks didn’t help but the main thing is we are in the draw for the next round.

Our under-15s were given a footballing lesson in the Cup at the hands of New Ross Celtic yesterday. We were the better team for the first 20, creating a couple of chances but failed to finish. They went in 2-0 down at half time. Game-ending injuries to Eoin O’Connor and the impressive Michael Gaynor didn’t help our cause, along with missing regular centre half Jack Whelan though illness, but each of the boys on the field gave it their all from start to finish. It finished 6-1, John Crosbie getting our only goal. Cody Meyler and Alex Molloy with standout performances in tough conditions.

Corach under-11s travelled to Bree Utd in the first round of the cup and came away with a fantastic 3-2 win. Daniel Sinnott, Harry Murphy (deadly free kick) and Jack Cleary with the goals. Well done, boys.
