- By MARIA PEPPER

WEXFORD undertaker Karen Macken is more used to wearing black but last weekend, she looked beautiful in a stunning white wedding dress as she walked up the aisle in Bride Street Church to marry her fiance Pádraigh Griffin,

Karen is regularly to be seen, dressed in a stylish long black coat and hat, as she walks in front of the hearse at local funerals in the town but last Saturday, the contrast couldn’t have been greater as she donned a floor-length white dress and veil for her wedding.

The January sun shone on the happy couple who have been together for seven years. Their five-year old daughter Klara was a flower girl.

GLAMOROUS Wexford undertaker Karen Macken usually dresses from head to toe in black but last weekend she was resplendent in white as she arrived in Bride Street church for her wedding.

Karen who is often to be seen walking in front of the hearse at funerals in the town while dressed in a long black coat and hat, walked up the aisle in a beautiful white wedding dress last Saturday to tie the knot with her fiance Pádraigh Griffin, a son of Pat and Saundra Griffin of Walkinstown, County Dublin and Chief Operating Officer at CloudStrong Ltd.

Her brother’s partner Caroline Mullins was her bridesmaid while the beautiful flower girl was Karen and Pádraigh’s five-year old daughter Klara. Padraigh’s best man was his brother Evan

Karen chose to walk alone up the aisle of the church as her dad Bernard sadly passed away in early 2005 at the age of 55. The former dental nurse decided to join her mother Kay in running the family undertaking business at Distillery Road following his death.

Despite it being January 28, the sun shone brightly on the couple who have been together for seven years.

The wedding followed by a reception in Whitford House Hotel, was attended by 100 guests including family and friends who travelled from Dublin, Clare, Carlow and the UK.

The happy couple are honeymooning in Krakow, Poland where the official wedding photographers Lee and Edyta Robinson are also holidaying separately this week, Edyta being a native of Poland.

‘We didn’t realise until the day of the wedding that they’re going there too. We’re planning to meet up,’ said Karen who has travelled to Poland with Pádraigh every February for a number of years.
