Deputies unite in push for third level facility at St Senan’s
ENNISCORTHY’S two TDs have put their political differences aside to fight for a third level education facility for the town.
Deputies Paul Kehoe and James Browne have joint forces asking both Minister for Education, Richard Bruton and Minister for Health, Simon Harris for an urgent meeting with a view to securing the St Senan’s Hospital grounds as an educational site. Following on from Cllr Paddy Kavanagh’s call for the hospital to be transformed into a third level campus Deputies Browne and Kehoe believe that the best use for the site is as a third level college or educational training centre.
The TDs will also raise the possibility of bringing the European Medicines Agency to Enniscorthy. However it is expected that there will be stiff competition for this agency throughout the EU.
Both Deputy Kehoe and Deputy Browne believe that Enniscorthy is an ideal location for an educational or training centre with its close proximity to both Carlow IT and Waterford IT while the soon to be open Enniscorthy to Gorey by-pass will bring Dublin within commuting distance.
According to both men further education facility would give Enniscorthy town and the wider local economy the economic kick start it needs and deserves while benefiting the entire community.
The idea of using the St. Senan’s location for educational purposes has been promoted for a number of years behind the scenes by community activists and local politicians and has widespread support. The TDs believe that the future of St Senan’s Hospital is above politics and believe that a united front must be shown in championing the issue of St Senan’s at national level.
