A County Wexford businesswoman has been appointed to helm of one of Ireland’s flagship hotels, the Clayton Hotel Burlington Road, formerly The Burlington.

Enniscorthy native Sandra Doyle has been appointed the hotel’s general manager by one of Ireland’s largest hotel groups, Dalata, following the acquisition of the flagship Dublin property.

Sandra comes from a well-known and long-established local family, and is the daughter of Eileen and the late Andy Doyle, a popular Labour Party councillor from Scarawalsh.

She is the sister of local Cllr Keith Doyle and is also sister of local business owners Thomas and Lucy Doyle, proprietors of Astor TV in Enniscorthy, Gorey and Wexford. Educated locally at The Presentation Convent, in Enniscorthy, followed by secondary school at The Loreto Sisters in Gorey, Sanrda opted to pursue a career in the hotel industry and was awarded a place at the world renowned Shannon College of Hotel Management.

Having worked extensively throughout Europe at leading hotels in France, Switzerland, England and Scotland, she returned to Ireland to take up the position of Deputy Manager at Actons Hotel in Kinsale.

This was followed by a most successful period heading up The Fitzpatrick Hotel brand in Clare and Dublin. In 2002, she was appointed General Manager of the John Rocca-designed boutique hotel The Morrison in Dublin, which was constantly in the headlines as home to the world’s top visiting bands, singers and movie stars. Welcoming the news of her daughter’s appointment, her mother Eileen said ‘we are delighted with the news of Sandra’s new role at The Clayton, formerly The Burlington. ‘It’s such a well known Dublin property and famous all over the country, I’m looking forward to a weekend away there soon. We might even get our Bridge group to pay a visit in the near future.’ Clayton Burlington Road is one of the capital’s largest hotels with over 500 rooms and is proud to be one of the biggest conference venues in Dublin. ‘It is a popular choice for many of the country’s high profile events and celebrations, most notably the All Ireland Hurling and Football celebratory events. Sandra said: ‘I am excited at the opportunity to head up this top class operation at Clayton Hotel Burlington Road for Dalata, the hotel has such a history over the years for hosting the great and the good of national and international events. ‘Formerly The Burlington, the hotel itself is regarded as a national treasure. I am looking forward to continuing its history,’ she said.
