ZURICH EMPLOYEES HIT BOOKS AGAIN AT FAYTHE SCHOOL

- By ESTHER HAYDEN

VOLUNTEERS from Zurich Wexford are back at school taking part in a reading initiative, It’s Time to Read, with third class students at St. John of God The Faythe school.

The Time to Read programme, run by Business in the Community Ireland, partners local companies with students in second or third class to assist them to increase their enjoyment of books and improve fluency and comprehension when reading.

Twelve volunteers from Zurich Wexford are spending 18 weeks reading with children from the third class at The Faythe, on a weekly basis. The children and their volunteers will also combine the reading with a workplace visit to Zurich Wexford and a library visit in Wexford. Training and support for the volunteers is provided by BITCI. Claudia Blaess Zurich Volunteer and company co-ordinator from Zurich said: ‘On behalf of Zurich and all the volunteers we are really delighted to be partnering with the school on the Time2Read Initiative. She added that Zurich is excited to be getting involved in the community on such a beneficial and invaluable programme for both the 3rd Class children and indeed the staff of Zurich.’

Liam Turner, Faythe School principal, said: ‘We are delighted to be chosen to partner with Zurich on theTime2Read Programme. Zurich and its staff are providing a really strong additional resource to our school and essential to support the children’s learning. That one to one reading time will provide long term literacy gains for the pupils involved.’
