Fancy surfing the Wexford waves?

-

THIS IS a time of year for looking ahead and perhaps planning to indulge in some new activity on the sporting front. And bearing that in mind, readers may be interested to know that Curracloe Surf Club would be delighted to welcome new members on board.

The club was established in 2015 and is chaired by Jack-Tim Murphy, a surfer for ten years who also represented his county and country in representative soccer.

Surfers have been developed and trained to compete in national events under the Wexford banner, and there has been great success so far with placed athletes in Under-8 to Under-14 categories, girls and boys.

The children involved may come from a county with no previous culture or history in surfing, but that hasn’t stopped them from performing to a high level in beautiful parts of the country such as Strandhill, Co. Sligo, Lahinch in Clare, Inch in Kerry, and Waterford.

This new and exciting sport is gaining traction in Wexford, and it carries a widespread appeal for youngsters in particular given the adventure and excitement involved.

The Curracloe club boasts a dedicated voluntary staff committed to coaching children from grassroots right up until adulthood.

If anyone would like to learn more about what’s involved, send an e-mail to jacktim@outlook.com and he will be happy to oblige.
