Superb year celebrated
THE YEAR 2016 was a phenomenal one for the Kilanerin/Ballinastragh Gaels club, with the Under-12 girls being the dream team by winning six titles.
Firstly they won the county Community Games and went on to represent Wexford in Leinster.
They then went on to win the Under-12 county football championship final, beating St. James’ by two points, showing great spirit having been ten points down at half-time.
In October they turned their attention to the small ball and won the camogie championship, beating Monageer-Boolavogue in an epic encounter.
The girls who attend the Kilanerin and Ballythomas schools competed in the Rackard League and won the District final by beating Oulart N.S., and after a nail-biting county final they accounted for Rathgarogue-Cushinstown N.S.
The Ballythomas school girls also won the mini-sevens final against Danescastle N.S., making history for the school for being the first-ever girls’ team to collect this title.
At the start of the year their three coaches - Enda McDonald, Tom Fitzpatrick and Paul Hughes - knew they had a great team of girls to work with but their achievements surpassed their expectations.
A medal presentation night was held for the team recently to celebrate the successes with family and friends.
