PLENTY MORE wins were taken by local runners again last week at several different tracks, starting Thursday night at Shelbourne Park when the Harry Seery (Taghmon)-trained All At Cain won race two, a semi-final of the A5 stake.

Tracking cleverly at the first bend, she set off after the early leader before she went to the front rounding the third bend, going on to score well from another Wexford runner, Strictly Pet, owned by George Roche (Barntown), in a time of 29.64.

The Tommy Woods (Enniscorthy)-owned Lord Lucky proved just that in race four, an S2/3 sprint, when breaking well enough to hold the rails position into the first corner.

He went on to score nicely in a useful time of 18.08.

At Waterford Saturday night there was an impressive win in race two for Ballarue Olive who turned this A6 into a one-hound race as she came home a clear eight and a half lengths in front in a good 29.17 for owners Patrick Whelan and Stephen Byrne from Enniscorthy.

Race five was also an A6 and the Pauline Byrne (Marshalstown)-owned Metric Annie came out in front after disputing the lead for much of the way. Metric ran on on well to hold Rains Maggie’s late finish by one and a half lengths in a time of 29.32.

Gary Murphy from Wexford town saw his Glenbrook View put in a superb run in race eight, an A2.

Getting a good break from his trap thee box, he was always going to be hard to beat as he stays well and he powered to a fastest of the night time of 28.61, following up his good win of the previous week. Glenbrook is trained by Eamon Moore of Barntown.

Race nine also saw a good run from Kebab Lucy, owned by Tony Broaders and John Costello, who scored an easy six lengths victory in a good 28.92. It was her first win from five starts and she did it in style at good odds of three to one.

Gorey owner Laurence A. Byrne had a great night at Shelbourne on Saturday, recording a super double.

Firstly his Alien Tears trained by Tracey Fitzpatrick (Gorey) scored in his semi-final of the A1 600 stake in a good 32.88. Running close to the pace, he came through to score by half a length.

Alien Jet then followed up his fine first round win in the Best Car Parks Gold Cup when taking race eleven, heat four. Breaking fast, he ran on gamely to hold Broadstrand Viny by half a length in 28.84. Jet is jointly owned by trainer Patrick Gordon (Enniscorthy).
