Jam company up for Business award

-

WEXFORD jam company Wexford Home Preserves has been nominated as a finalist in the SFA National Small Business Awards 2017.

The aim of the awards is to celebrate the achievements of small business in Ireland, and to recognise the vital contribution of the small business sector to Irish industry.

The growing business is run by Tom and Laura Sinnott from their headquarters in New Ross. Tom’s aunt Ellen O’Leary started Wexford Home Preserves in 1988 in Our Lady’s Island. She built up a great reputation locally for the quality of her jams, marmalades and other preserves which were made with locallly grown fruit.

Tom and his wife Laura took over the reins and hae continued producing high quality, award winning jams and preserves.

Wexford Home Preserves has won several awards including Wexford business of the year, numerous Great Taste Awards and the Irish Quality Food Awards.

The company now supplies over 350 shops nationwide and is making award winning Select products for Dunnes Stores.

Tom and Laura, besides employing themselves, have created 12 jobs and have contributed a lot to the local economy, choosing to deal with local suppliers whenever they can.

The awards prize package for all finalists includes an exhibition stand at the SFA National Small Business Showcase in the RDS in February and a strategic management masterclass weekend. Finalists also receive five complementary tickets to the gala prize giving ceremony which will take place in the RDS in March 2017 when the category winners and overall winner will be announced.

The category winners will be presented with a trophy and free membership of the Small Firms Association. The overall winner will also receive a bursary of €5,000 to present to a charity of their choice (funded by the 2013 Overall Winner, Megazyme International Ireland) and a responsible business practices check-up and action plan from Business in the Community Ireland.
