Pilates classes take place in Screen hall on Tuesday mornings from 10.11 a.m. and in Castlebrid­ge community centre on Sundays from 10.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. Newcomers most welcome. The organisers of Operation Over the Water are delighted with the many people taking part in their fundraiser which is going very well. Thanks to Seamie Harding for leading a brilliant circuit training class last week and Fit Nutz for the outdoor session. Thank you also to Rachel Power, Elaine Hearne and Eamonn McCarthy for all their hard work.

The organisers are encouragin­g people to participat­e not just with an aim to lose weight but also to be more active, improve health and well-being, get involved/be part of a bigger group and above all for a bit of fun. You are welcome to join in this week, €5 per week and there are six weeks still to go.

The session continues in Hollymount this evening, Tuesday with weigh-in/check in at 7.30 p.m. with class/walking/jogging/running starting at 8 p.m. continuing with a session on Friday evening at 8 p.m. and they also meet on Sunday mornings at the Raven, Curracloe at 10 a.m. for a walk/jog/run. 5K WALK AND PRAYER

A 5K walk with prayer for Darren Corrigan will be held on Curracloe beach at 5 p.m. on Saturday, March 4, and will include a barbecue, a raffle and an auction. Music afterwards in Freddie’s of Screen. Sponsorshi­p cards are available from Pat Ennis at Freddie’s Bar. Please give your generous support as all money raised will go to Wexford General hospital. So get those walking shoes on and start practising for this worthy cause.

SHELS GAA LOTTO

Shelmalier GAA Club had no winner of their weekly jackpot on January 23. The numbers drawn were 16, 20, 24 and 30. There were no match-three winners either. Match-three winners this week will share €400 and the jackpot stands at €5,600.

SCHOOL ENROLMENT

Screen national school is now enrolling for September 2017. Forms are available from the school office or can be downloaded from www.screenns.ie.

POOL TOURNAMENT

The Richard Furlong Memorial Pool Tournament has once again commenced in the Roadhouse, Curracloe. Jamie Furlong and Aidan Howlin played the first semi-final with Aidan coming out victorious and Jimmy Doyle defeating Pat Furlong in the second semi-final. Jimmy Doyle went on to win the final. The tournament continues for the next eight weeks and takes place every Thursday night. New players are most welcome.

CURRACLOE SCHOOL NEWS

A Book Fair will be held in Curracloe national School on Tuesday and Wednesday, February 7 and 8. The fair will be open from 11 a.m. till 4 p.m. on both days and from 6.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m. on Tuesday evening.

The parents’ associatio­n with the great help of parents Jessie and Esther O’Connor have organised a Curracloe 5K fun run for Sunday, February 26, commencing at the school at midday. Registrati­on will take place at the school from 10.30 a.m. with donations accepted on the day. Refreshmen­ts will be served afterwards in the school. All funds raised will go to the school funds. Recent split-the-pot winner was Annie Quinn, who won €202.

Enrolments for September 2017 are now open. If you wish to enrol your child, please pick up a registrati­on form from the school office or download it from the Website. Return the completed form as soon as possible. Mrs Byrne, the infants teacher will host an informatio­n afternoon for parents in mid May. This will be followed by two Induction days for parents and children in late June. Further details to follow very soon, but in the meantime, pick up those registrati­on forms. PRICKLY ROSE OF SHELMALIER

Hotel Curracloe was the place to be on Friday night last where the inaugural Prickly Rose of Shelmalier took place.

In front of a massive crowd, MC Tom Dempsey introduced the various Roses and their lovely Escorts.

Competitio­n was rife and Molly (Conor Byrne) with his Escort Theresa Hore-Meagher were crowned overall winners. Their awards were presented by Strawberry Queen Rebecca O’Connor and JP Hanrahan of Hotel Curracloe, the main sponsors for the night.

Special adjudicato­rs award went to Britney (Simon) Walsh and escort Emma Hearne, while Shelly (Joe) Kelly and Roisin Tobin picked up best act award.

Special thanks to Tom who did an impeccable job and to the adjudicato­rs Aidan O’Leary, Bridget Curran and Rebecca O’Connor.

This was a fabulous social night for the club and everyone came away having been entertaine­d royally. Sincere thanks to all who helped out in any way and a big Thank You to the community for supporting the clubs fundraiser.
