ATHLETICS

The County Masters Cross-Country championships were held in Kilmore on Sunday afternoon last. Rain, cold and muddy conditions prevailed but that did not deter the athletes. St Killian’s club were well represented by Niall Sheil, Pádraig Moriarty and Brian O’Shaughnessy. Niall had a superb race over the four lap course making his break on the last lap to take the win in fine style. Brian also had a good race, finishing strong, and in those tough conditions, he showed the other athletes how to do it by running in bare feet. He was followed in by Pádraig, who finished strong.

All of these men were out in action in the Ballymurn 5K on Sunday week last where Niall battled with Myles Gibbons of SBR to take the win. Brian came home in eighth place just ahead of Pádraig in ninth place Bernard Wadding, Gerry Moran and Deirdre O’Grady were also in action on the day, coming home in 69th, 76th and 77th place respectively.

A reminder to all juvenile members that training continues every Monday and Thursday evening at Crossabeg school from 7 p.m. to 8.15 p.m. New members are most welcome.
