Congratulations to this week’s winner of our split-the-pot draw prize No three in 2017. Bernie Murphy scooped the winning prize of €356 in the Halfway House Pub, Ballycogley on Monday January 23. Next week’s draw is in the Bridies Bar, Bridgetown on Monday January 30.

ALL BLACKS AFC GIRLS: Our under-10s schoolgirls were defeated in the second round cup away to Tombrack over the weekend. The game was concluded with a fantastic penalty shoot out. Both teams served up an excellent game of football. The score was still even, 0-0 at half time.

The second half began with an excellent Naomi Denton score providing an advantage of 1-0 up to All Blacks. Tombrack with a good run of play scored shortly after our score, getting the necessary equaliser. The girls piled on the pressure but could not find the winner, the game was going to extra time. Defenders from both teams seem to be winning all, great clearances from Kate in the back line. Great performance by Holly May in goals.

The game soon entered a penalty shootout. Goals came from both sides in penalties, it was 3-3 after six penalties being taken. Both teams undivided at this point it then entered into sudden death. Tombrack gained the upper hand going on to win 5-4 to advance to the next round.

Big thanks to all family members who travelled up and supported this great bunch of girls. Well wishes to Ava, Jenna and Sinéad, who are sick at the moment. A very speedy recovery.

The under-12 girls secured a place in the cup quarter final after securing a 9-4 victory at home to Carnew. The clubs top scorer of the season Aoibheann Rankin was again in flying form scoring seven goals, the first coming just seconds into the game. Carnew equalised quickly and some good play from both teams made it an entertaining game. Aoife Devereaux in goal and Aoife Codd, Tara Cullen and Eve Rowe were kept busy in defence. Some excellent passages of play from midfield led to Aoibheann scoring three more before the break making the score 4: two at halftime.

Plenty of action in the second half made Sophie Wallace, Cora Sinnott, Abby Lambert and Ciara Murphy in midfield working hard for every ball. The Carnew defence had no answer for Aoibheann, who added three more skilfully taken goals during this half. Cora also scored a very well taken free kick and Ciara was rewarded for all of her hard work with a lovely goal. Well done to all of the girls.
