THE ESB has awarded almost €12,000 to three community and voluntary groups in the vicinity of Carnsore Wind Farm.

The grants are part of ESB’s Wind Farm Community Fund, which makes grants available to community and voluntary organisations for projects located in close proximity to their wind farms. The three projects are: •€6,000 to Paisti Beaga pre-school towards the refurbishment of a disused public house into a new premises. This funding will give them the capacity to meet the demand of their pre-school and after-school services.

•€3,000 to St. Mary’s Day Care Centre towards the installation of a water softening system and purchase of hair dressing equipment for their premises. The award will help the voluntary service improve and expand their service offering to the elderly of the wider catchment area.

•€3,000 to Tacumshane Old School Committee towards the upgrading of windows at the community hall thereby increasing the energy efficiency, and overall comfort level of its users.

Commenting on the funding, Jane McLaughlin of the Paisti Beaga pre-school, said: ‘Ours is a community organisation run by a voluntary committee made up of local community members. The group are currently in the process of renovating a new premises and the support could not have come at a better time for our pre-school.

‘We have very limited resources for our renovation project, and this award will ensure that we can upgrade our new room with a great quality, safe and non-slip floor covering. We found the application process to be quite straightforward, and the staff extremely helpful and very approachable.’
