Young brainiacs put their knowledge to the test
THE annual Wexford Credit Union school quiz took place last week at the Ferrycarrig Hotel where eleven schools participated in the first round to fight for their spot at the next level.
The quiz is for primary schools in two categories, under eleven and under 13, with the winners moving on to regionals in March.
Winners must navigate two knockout stages at local and regional level before going on to the national final.
The winners of category ‘A’, the under eleven age group, were the pupils from CBS Primary School Wexford – Conal Dwyer, Jack Clare, Dylan McBride and James Browne.
Castlebridge Primary School students Robbie Delaney, Maeve Hayes, Cian Doyle and Grace Donovan were the overall winners in category ‘B’, the under 13 age group.
The members of both winning teams receive plaques and a Credit Union bag filled with art sets.
The two local teams will now compete at the Chapter level’ in March where teams from around Wexford and South Wicklow will go head-to-head. The winners from this stage will represent the region at the national final in Dublin’s RDS on April 9 where 100 qualifying teams will compete under the watchful eye of celebrity quizmaster, RTE’s Marty Whelan.
The runners up in both categories at the Wexfod finals were teams from Barntown.
The quiz was organised and coordinated by the Credit Union’s Tonya Fortune and Pat McGannon, who was the quiz master.
‘ The annual quiz night went really well. We had a lot of participants and would like to congratulate the winners and wish them all the best for the next level. Hopefully they will go on to represent Wexford in the national final,’ said Pat.
