Greyhounds to resume in Enniscorthy Thursday
IT WAS a great start to the year for the Kilmore Six syndicate as their charge, Tanami Sand, came out winner of the €2,000 Guys and Dolls final at the Clonmel festival of racing night last week.
Trainer Vincent Morris of Rosslare Harbour had her in top form as she posted her career-best winning time.
She took up the running off the second bend and was never headed after that, going on to record her eighth race win in a good time of 28.99 to the delight of all involved.
There was a nice win for Enniscorthy owner Eleanor Turner when her Hillside Kick ran out an easy five lengths victor in race seven on Tuesday at Harold’s Cross, leading all the way in a time of 29.21.
Eleanor went on to enjoy another win on Friday with litter sister Cooper Lane who was also fast away and held on by a neck in a time of 29.34, recording her sixth race win and coincidentally in race seven too.
At Shelbourne Park on Thursday, also in race seven, the Jacqueline McCann-trained Kerrydale Bertie took a bump at the second bend but it made little difference as he went on to score a very clearcut three and a half length win in a good 28.94 in the A4/5 BG stake.
At Kilkenny on Friday the John Doyle-owned Kiltrea Breeze was a good winner of race six over the staying trip of 725 yards.
She ran out a comfortable winner by four lengths, even after encountering trouble in the early stages, to record a good time of 40.77.
Enniscorthy owner Aidan Denton also enjoyed a nice win in the €800 final of an A2 550 yards at Curraheen Park, Cork, on Saturday, going to the lead off the second bend and racing to a clear four length success in a good 30.07.
Waterford saw more Wexford winners on Saturday, with owners taking the first three races. In race one big boy 90 lb.
Tagalong Hawkeye proved too strong on the run to the line, outstaying his opponents to score by a length to record his ninth race win in a time of 29.14.
Tagalong has now been in the first three 28 times from 39 runs for owner/trainer Dermot Flynn (Enniscorthy), and is proving a fine money-spinner.
The second race, an A7, saw the Oliver ‘Hopper’ McGrath (Castlebridge)-owned Willmount Daisy go to the front off the second bend before going away to score a comfortable win by three lengths in a time of 29.60.
Owner Derek Wilde saw his Carrigoe Yaya put in a good finishing run to get up in the closing stages and grab the win by half a length in a time of 29.78 in race three, an A5/6.
Continuing the winning run in race five, an N1/2 Novice, there was a nice win for Rathsilla Flo Jo, owned by Olive and Ian Morrissey. Getting away well from traps, Flo Jo led and went on to score a snug three and a half lengths win in 29.73, a nice start to her racing career.
Barntown rrainer Nick Turner had a good win in race six as Call Me Rocket, having his first run at the track, made light work of this A4 contest.
He ran out from the front to score snugly in a time of 29.30 for owners the Stephen’s Day Six syndicate, who may well have had a few bob on, returning at odds of 6/4 favourite.
Enniscorthy racing is due to restart this coming Thursday night, weather permitting, with the first race at 8 p.m. and a good crowd on the cards after the break.
