300 Wexford households in survey

MORE than 300 County Wexford households will be included in a nationwide survey being conducted by the National Transport Authority to find out how travelling patterns have changed over the past five years.

The National Household Travel Survey 2017 will target 6,000 households all over Ireland including 345 in County Wexford to produce an estimated 10,000 three-day travel diaries from people of all ages.

The survey is being carried out by Amárach Research and will ask questions such as - have you changed your travel behaviour as the economy moved from recession into economic recovery; are more Wexford children using scooters or bikes to travel to school since 2012 when the last survey was carried out; is the car still the dominant mode of transport in County Wexford?.

The Wexford households being surveyed will receive an initial letter from Amárach informing them that they have been selected to take part in the survey which is running over the next eight to 10 weeks. They will then receive a house visit from an Amárach representative who will advise them on how to complete the travel diary and make arrangements to collect the information at a convenient time.

Participation in the survey is voluntary. The data collected will remain confidential and anonymous.

Barry Colleary, the Head of Transport Modelling in the National Transport Authority said the information will help the NTA to better understand people’s current modes of transport and the infrastructure required in Wexford for the future.
