Johnstown Parkrun marks anniversar­y

THE Johnstown Parkrun will be celebratin­g its second anniversar­y with appropriat­ely enough, a Parkrun.

The Mayor Cllr Jim Staples and local sporting celebritie­s will be among several hundred people expected to turn out on Saturday, March 4, whatever the weather.

Runners and walkers of all ages and abilities are welcome to take part in the free event. Regular Parkruns take place every Saturday morning in the Johnstown Castle grounds for all members of the community to attend.

The birthday run starts at 9.30 a.m. Walkers, joggers and runners are expected to wear something GREEN! And there will be lots of spot prizes for the best fancy dress costume and best running times on the day.

The organisers say it’s best to come early and warm up. To register for this free run log onto parkrun.ie and go to register and your barcode will be sent out to you. This will be used to send you out your 5K finish time. Johnstown parkrun is one of the best attended parkruns in the country. Every week up to 200 walkers, joggers and runners who attend parkrun and enjoy the social, and exercise benefits of this free event. Adults or children can enter the free 5K event.

It’s just you against the clock and you can go along at your own pace.
