HOW SARAH, CLAIRE AND PADRAIG ARE GETTING ON

-

After struggling with training the last two weeks I worked really hard to get more done this time. I’ve managed to up my distance and I got three 5km runs in last week and three again this week and then one 6km done too.

I’ve been moving the runs around to different times during the day too and I feel better running in the evenings even after work I find I’ve more energy than first thing in the morning. I tend to run on my own so I find music a massive help.

As well as the running training I train most days in the gym – the change to more cardio based training hasn’t been as hard as I thought it would be.

I was away this weekend and climbed Croagh Patrick which was much harder than I had anticipated, but it was good preparation for the 60km hike I’m doing next weekend for the Irish premature association.

The running training has really helped the basic fitness levels so it’s been good for everything. I’ve really struggled for motivation this week but I pushed myself to get out and do it anyway and I really did feel better for it. So just keep going even on the hard days in the cold rain and dark it’s worth it. The last 2 weeks have been much better. Despite the bad weather I’ve got out three times each week.

Over the weekend I went to Killarney on a two-day training session. My running partner Aiden Doyle (Pettitt’s SuperValu in Gorey) really set the pace for me. I’ve got up to 14k now so I’m two thirds of the way there. This new healthy lifestyle is not too bad at all.

Your body is the most important engine you will have in your life. I definitely have to look after it better. I don’t think I’ll get a trade in on it so I’d better maintain it.

The last two weeks have gone with out any real problems for me. I’ve been able to get out most days for my runs, I’ve been running at least 5k Monday to Friday and keep the weekends for family activities. Myself and my lovley friend Eva have started running Wednesday mornings and we have a nice little 5k run that we do which is enjoyable.

Huge well done to Eva who last week ran the 5k without stopping for the first time, it really was a fantastic achievement.

I have to say the highlight of the last two weeks has to be the fitness class that I have been attending at Kennedy Park School which has been put on for free for all the parents by Kevin Cogley. It really is amazing what a good laugh can do for you, the group of lovley ladies Anne, Angie, Laura and Christine as well as Davy are just brillant.

We are getting our bodies fit but more importantly we are getting our minds fit. I just want to thank the group for really giving me something to look forward to each week. I’m looking forward to the next few weeks and upping my distance to 9k.
