Children have splashing time
Waterfront Leisure Centre hosts county swimming finals
YOUNG CHILDREN from around the county travelled to the Waterfront Leisure Centre in Enniscorthy on Wednesday for the county finals of the Community Games swimming events.
They came from the Taghmon, Bree-Davidstown, Castlebridge-Crossabeg, Enniscorthy, Clonard, Rathgarogue-Cushinstown, Adamstown, Piercestown-Murrintown and Glynn-Barntown Areas to compete and hopefully take home a medal.
There was a slight increase in numbers this year and in a couple of events, some close finishes arose. Well done to all who competed and good luck to those who are lucky enough to win gold, as they have the opportunity of competing again at the national finals in Abbotstown, Co. Dublin, on Saturday, May 6.

Congratulations to the girls from Rathgarogue-Cushinstown who won the Under-13 outdoor soccer county final held recently in Castlebridge. There will be a full report in next week’s issue.
Entries are needed for the boys’ and girls’ Under-12 and Under-14 cross-country relays, teams of four children plus two substitutes.
Entries are also being taken for the Under-16 boys’ and girls’ 10k marathons, with teams of four in each section.
Both of these competitions at national level will take place on Saturday, May 6, in Abbotstown, Co. Dublin. Area Secretaries are asked to give this notice due consideration. UPCOMING EVENTS Thursday, March 2: county Under-14 table quiz in the Ferrycarrig Hotel. Registration at 6.30 p.m. and the competition gets under way at 7 p.m. Could Area Secretaries please advise me (Anne Cowman on 086-1980775) of the numbers of teams they will have competing a few days beforehand, as the hotel will need to know how many tables to assemble.
Saturday, March 11: county art and handwriting competitions in Castlebridge National School. The closing date for receipt of entries to the county Secretary is March 4. Areas will be notified of times of events once all the entries are with the county Secretary.
Sunday, April 2: county gymnastic finals in Gorey Gym Club.
Wexford teams have a bye in round one of Leinster and will travel for round two to play the winners from the Kilkenny v. Carlow games. These games are to be played on or between Thursday, March 9, and Saturday, March 18.
The Leinster semi-finals and finals will take place in Carlow on Sunday, April 2. County co-ordinator is Jason Moran, so if any team manager has a problem, please contact Jason.
The Leinster Community Games will be launched at a special ceremony at the Talbot Hotel in Carlow on Saturday evening, April 1.
All Leinster counties are invited to attend and it would be great to have some Wexford children in attendance too, dressed in the purple and gold tracksuits.
