Cloughbawn just one win away from U-11 crown

-

CLOUGHBAWN ARE just one win away from a stunning Wexford and District Schoolboys Soccer Under-11 Division 1 title after beating St. Joseph’s at the weekend.

A victory at home to Wexford Albion next time out will mean they can no longer be caught by Gorey Rangers, the last remaining challenger.

While Bridge Rovers were advancing in their delayed Under-11 Cup second round tie, North End moved to the top of the Division 1A table with victory over Gorey Celtic. There are still plenty of fixtures remaining but the title looks set to be a straight fight between the top two.

In Division 2, Curracloe United moved past Rosslare Strand with minimal fuss to remain five points clear at the summit. They were unable to increase their advantage further because second-placed Glynn Barntown produced a solid performance to edge St. Leonards.

One team that was able to move further clear was Bunclody in Division 2A. They made the trip to Ferns and came away with a 4-1 win while nearest challengers Oylegate slipped up against Camolin Celtic, meaning nine points separates the top two with five games remaining.

Division 3 also has five games left and it looks like Newpark United will be tough to catch. They edged a cracking top of the table clash with New Ross Town B 5-4 to move nine points clear, while Bree jumped to joint second with victory away at Forth Celtic B.

Fethard Rangers moved into sole possession of the top spot in Under-13 Division 1A after beating Bridge Rovers 2-0 at the weekend. Shamrock Rovers had no game so slip three points back, but the league is going to come down to the two meetings between the sides in the coming weeks.

It proved to be a fantastic day for Oylegate in Division 2A, despite the fact that they were inactive.

All their title rivals drew, leaders Shelburne were held 2-2 by Killenagh while Kilmore and Ferns, sitting third and fourth, tied 1-1, meaning those five teams, plus Curracloe, still have a shot at the title on the run-in.

The only game in Division 3 was a big one. Gorey Celtic B, sitting level at the top of the table before the weekend, further strengthened their position with an excellent 2-1 victory over thirdplaced Corach Ramblers. They will win the title with four points in their final two games.

Meanwhile, in Division 3A the top two both won, meaning Wexford Celtic will be champions if they avoid defeat in their final game with Shamrock Rovers.

Gorey Rangers joined Forth Celtic at the summit of the Under-15 Division 1 table with a 3-0 win against Wexford Albion. Bridge Rovers’ victory away against St. Leonards means they tied Ballymurn Celtic at the top of Division 1A with two games remaining.

New Ross Celtic maintained their eight-point advantage on Camolin with four games remaining in Division 2 after both sides won last weekend.

It was a similar story in Division 2A where the top two, Enniscorthy Town and Cloughbawn, both picked up three points. Finally, Gorey Rangers closed to within three points of leaders Kilmore in Division 3 with victory against St. Joseph’s B.
