We were delighted to take up the kind Invitation from the Burrow Lifeboat Committee to attend the Commemorat­ion at the RNLI Monument last Sunday and what a great occasion it was. Congratula­tions to all concerned. We were glad to help by replacing the Pagoda together with continuing the theme of the Granite Paving. This whole area has taken on a new look and what a place it is now to relax, picnic or just take in the spectacula­r views.

TAGHMON COMMUNITY GAMES

Well done to our under-12 girls’ soccer team who were runners-up and silver medalists in the county final last weekend.

Well done Rebecca, Cora, Molly, Lily, Ruth, Rachel, Elena, Gemma and Caoimhe. A big thanks to Niamh and Joe, our managers on the day.

Congratula­tions to our four swimmers who competed in the swimming county finals last Wednesday. Roisin Reville just missed out on a place in the final. Caoimhe Reville was second, Anna Kelly was second and Shania Quigley was third in their finals. Well done, girls.

Good luck to our four teams in the quiz final on Thursday. The results of the local art and handwritin­g competitio­ns will be announced later and the medals will be sent to the schools.

TAGHMON ICA

The February meeting took place on Wednesday, February 15. After the ICA prayer the meeting started with the minutes of the last meeting and the correspond­ence. Dates for your diary are as follows: Federation meeting Monday, February 27. Cookery demonstrat­ion at Mary Kelly’s Thursday the second. Craft School in Coláiste Bríde, Enniscorth­y. Federation Bowling competitio­n May 25 and Special occasion competitio­n on June 8. Daffodil Day takes place on March 24. Please support as you always do.

After a lot of discussion it was decided to use the Go for Life Grant to get some bowling practice in for the bowling competitio­n. We also hope to get a walking group going in the better weather. After some chair exercises with Carol Gray the meeting concluded with tea and the raffle. The raffle was won by Mella Winters and Billie O’Donnell.

The next meeting takes place in Campile Hall as part of a group meeting on March 15

SOCIAL CYCLE

Caroreigh Community Alert are organising a social cycle on Sunday, March 19. Registrati­on at 1.30 p.m. Cycle starts at Camross Hall at 2 p.m. Registrati­on Fee €10. All cyclists must be over 18 and wear a helmet. Distance 11.5km or 23km. Tea and refreshmen­ts in Camross Hall.

CAMOGIE CLUB QUIZ

Taghmon-Camross camogie club will hold its annual table quiz in Rochford’s Pub, Camross, on Friday, March 3, at 9 p.m. Entry is €20 for a table of four. There will also be a raffle on the night with some great prizes up for grabs. Your continued support of the club is greatly appreciate­d and we look forward to seeing you all there.

Congratula­tions to the Camross team who won the table quiz which was held in Byrne’s Pub in Bree on February 23. Well done, ladies.

Our next meeting will be on March 6 at 8 p.m. in Camross hall and the monthly competitio­n will be the ‘nicest sugar bowl’. If you want to expand your social life, learn new skills, take part in fun activities or just do something different in 2017, joining our fun and friendly group could be just what you are looking for. There was no winner of last week’s jackpot of €5,100. The winning numbers were 2, 7, 26 and 29. Congratula­tions to the two match-three winners who each received €150. The match-three winners were Padge Banville and Roisín Cahill. The next lotto draw will be held on Tuesday, February 28, and the jackpot now stands at €5,400.

GAA NEWS

The all county football and hurling leagues will begin this week when Glynn-Barntown pay a visit to Hollymount on Friday night next, March 3 to take on the home sides senior footballer­s with the game starting at 8 p.m. Blackwater come to Hollymount on Tuesday, March 7, for their junior football encounter starting at 8 p.m. The action switches to hurling the following week with Glynn-Barntown hurlers returning to Hollymount on Saturday, March 11, at 2 p.m. and Fethard taking on the intermedia­te hurlers at 3.30 p.m. also on March 11 the all county league reverts to football the following week with both games in Hollymount, with the seniors taking on the Sarsfields on Thursday, March 16, at 8 p.m. and the juniors taking on St James on Sunday, March 19, at 4.30 p.m. Round 2 of the hurling takes place when the intermedia­te hurlers take on Taghmon in Taghmon at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 24, and the senior hurlers travelling to Pairc Charman on Saturday, March 25, with the match starting at 2 p.m. Please check the Shelmalier website, Facebook or Twitter for up-to-date news on matches and results. A great display by both Shelmalier players Brian Malone and Eoghan Nolan ensured that Wexford footballer­s continued their fine form in Division four of the National football league when Wexford overcame a strong Waterford team by two points in Wexford Park on Sunday last. This week it’s the turn of the Wexford hurlers and we wish Simon Donohoe every success in round three of the national hurling league.

REGISTRATI­ON NIGHT

There was a great turn out on the first of the joint Shelmalier GAA, St Ibar’s/ Shemalier camogie and Coiste na nÓg registrati­on night held in Hollymount on Monday night last. The second joint registrati­on night will take place on Monday night next, March 6, in Hollymount from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. This is a great opportunit­y for all members, players and families to partake and become a member of all groups with a single payment and there is a great saving to be made by doing so. Therefore the clubs are encouragin­g as many members, players and families to go along to Hollymount on Monday night, and with only one simple transactio­n all family membership­s can be paid up for the year ahead.

Castlebrid­ge Handball Club will hold a table quiz in the Porter House, Castlebrid­ge, tonight, Tuesday, February 28, at 8.30 p.m. €20 for a team of four persons.
